Thailand and the Diamonds!!!
Just a quick msg, have any BM's had any experiences bringing back the red or blue diamonds from Thailand into their own country...? i'm not talking about huge numbers but for personal use only. Is it possible, or would customs look disaprovingly on this , as your probably aware, i do live in australia and customs are quite strict. Is it possible to do this? or probably safer not to.....
Looking forward to anyones responses, especially those who live in australia, or have had any experience .
Thanks in advance
Jaysen

There are a few smaller shops where you may get an OK deal, then there are the large gem emporiums (one just outside Patong), which compared to India, Sri Lanka, S.Africa & S.America are very, I mean VERY, expensive. You will be told you are getting a great deal but you're definately not. They have a commission system right through to the person that refers or brings you along - if that is involved. They agent who brings you gets 20% of whatever you purchase (I have a friend who used to do this part-time) then the sales person gets a cut and the gem store takes a share. Basically, tends to double the price from the normal market value. So, if you are into gems then probably better to steer clear. Mainland Thailand, nearer to the mining regions is probably your best bet. I've bought in all the above (for stones) and don't bother when on holiday in Phuket. However, for fun and to see some great gems - just to take a look - the place near Patong is a good day out.

So if I understand correctly I can dig up these blue and red diamonds myself from the mining regions.
Only joking Col ..... I do not think Jaysen is talking about gems here.

mae hong son
IMHO if your looking for diamonds/precious stones, as Col said do not look in phuket as its all imported to there from the North.
Go to the far north and you may pick up bargains but you must know the value of stones well.
If you looking at minor imports to Australia customs will be flexible if you are asked and say that you are getting them made locally into rings, necklaces for family at home.
My trip this time after Patong will involve Mae Hong Son to pick up some stones, but i am taking my friend (policewoman) from Chiang Mai, who speaks fluent Burmese and English with me.
When it comes to dealing with the sellers, i will be not involved until the price is to be paid.
Hopefully the cost will be reduced and the profit i will make may make the trip north worthwhile.
If not it will be an experience to try it.

Oh F**k, the day has finally arrived, no more beer for me!!
Soz, missed the completely obvious.
Did, have a good laugh at myself - not sure about that!
Anyway, to the question (proper) last I looked, plenty of chemist/smally supermarkets in the bar area of Patong that will happily oblidge. Not sure wher the best deals/choice is today? Since a year since my last trip.

Jaysen i dont think it would be worth the trouble to get them you would need a writen prescription in english or a permit http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page.cfm?u=4369#e1053
http://tga.gov.au/pmeds/pmeds.htm
you can e-mail them to find out for sure

Red Diamonds
The good old internet. I bought a whole bunch of Red Diamond (Kamagra) Jelly from the Internet at £2 for each 100MG Sachet. £50 for 25 sachets. I am sure that this is possible in Australia... You just answer yes to all the questions and say that you are super healthy and very fit etc.
I did not see Kamagra much cheaper than this in Patong.

Hey Mac the customs in australia are very strict i think they pride them selves on it . Quote from the customs web site (Any amount of controlled drugs imported by other means such as post or air cargo require a permit.) all of the mail that comes in to AUS is checked

Importing Kamagra
Sorry to mislead you. Kamagra-man is based in the UK. I meant that there was probably some outlet in Australia for providing quasi prescription drugs based on an online consultation like kamagra-man in the UK.
If not then I guess a six pack of four x will have to do!
Good luck
Mac
