OK, the boys will be here 19th for 4 days. For anyone who does or is thinking about parking in Soi SeaDragon, the soi will be closed to traffic from 6pm to 1am for the days the navy is in town.

sea story to follow

I was in the navy for 9 years; on submarines. Big difference in a submarine crew of 120 and a carrier with a crew of 5000 or more. We were in Charolette-Ameile harbor (St. Thomas, VI) when a small carrier pulled in. All liberty boats immediately became unavailable. Everything was so jammed up that the captain pulled everyone in from shore leave and we motored over to St. Croix. A carrier can put well over 4000 men on liberty all at once. Only about one in three of the engineering department, and about 1 in 8 of the ship's complement, have to stay on board for duty. That leaves the embarked squadron personnel totally free.

Also, having had seven days of shore leave on a 6 month deployment, I have spent money like a drunken sailor. And I wasn't looking for a meaningful relationship. So, I would find somewhere else to go while a carrier is in port.

Just read a previous post about carriers into Phuket. A few years ago we did have a carrier here, as there where 6000 odd bods here. What a wild time that was. I have seen a US defence site, which lists Phuket as a 3000 tops liberty port, which does now rule out carriers.

One of the best time I've had whilst the US Navy was in town, was a few years ago, when the USS Gary rented Playschool for the night, for a crew member promotion party, and only the crew from that ship where allowed into Playschool. What a great night that was, and what a great bunch of guys.

So do the BG's raise their price for the Navy guys ?........Is there a sudden influx of BG's from North to make a good $ over the next 4 days ?

I guess the Hotels and the local businesses will all be happy.

good for phuket

best thing that can happen for phuket is hungry horny and big spending sailors.
the BGs will be preparing their price list now.

good for all the businesses in town, freelance and registered.
not good for us 40s something less than handsome types,
some times competition does hurt.

At home when the carriers come in, the ******s fly from interstate for servicing duties, and the local enthusiastic amateurs get treated much better than they do by the locals.

But they spend big money, and generally the shore patrol keeps them in line.

Only thing worse than US Navy is Australian Navy. I've seen it about 10-12 years ago after the Gulf war, I think Phuket was their first port after 6 or 9 months duty near Kuwait. 3 US ships at anchor in Patong Bay and a lot of sailors. When they left (earlier than programmed I thought) we saw 2 Australian Navy vessels anchor. Compared to those the US sailors are choir boys. Never seen US navy man walking in the street holding a bottle of Mekong and eating raw tigerprawns, even at night...the Aussies where in that stage in the afternoon. Bars made top incomes.

Here's a nice summary of the practicalities of Phuket:

http://www.globalsecurity.org/milita...ity/phuket.htm

Note the 3000 liberty limit (c.f. Pattaya's 10,000) and if you are hiding from a typhoon, forget it

Also from Navy Newsstand;

"Patong Beach is the home to numerous hotels and European tourists who come year-round to experience the natural beauty and culture of Thailand. "

Cheers,

K.

I hope there will be great numbers the coming days, since I havent seen it for the last 3 years. Just few hundreds and it is barely noticable except maybe for Soi Seadragon bars.

I always had fun with the boys and they were all friendly and enjoyed themselves. The girls also had fun and made good money.

Mai Thai Bar will open in the afternoon tomorrow.

Well, at the moment it is not busy, look like just a few hundreds arrived. But somebody told me another 1500 were late and should be arriving soon.

So Soi Eric and other sois has been open since 13:00 but not many people around but it was fun to see the street open in daytime, not often we do that.

Due to confusion over Rugby showings I was out of Bangla by early evening.. Some of the guys I spoke to in the daytime had to back aboard by 10 PM which seemed a little harsh way to do it..

Are the shift rotations being awkward to them ??

I think its another 2 days...

There is a noticable boost in US presence but it feels less than previous 'Navy Invasions' IMHO.. I think closing off SeaDragon was unnecessary this time round etc..

Yep closing SeaDragon is right royal pain in the ****, and totally unnecessary. Their last day is tomorrow (22nd). Apparently all that where expected didnt show up.

Had a great day with the US Navy and US Marine Corps

Was a good day in Tiger bars. The guys were a pleasure to talk to and we had some good laughs. They eem to realy like the Scottish people, many of the marines spent time with scottish regiments in Iraq (mostl scottish regiments in Iraq) Some are coming to my bar tonight with their photos of the fighting in Iraq

As far as Im aware the younger guys have to return to their ship at 10pm, NCOS and higher have a pass until 1am. Many have booked hotel rooms for short time action. This has confused alot of girls who think the guys are staying overnight at hotels

Playing pool now in Rio with Marines

They ringed the bell maybe 4 times yesterday and lot of guys bought the farang t-shirt, they seemed to like that one.

The funny thing is that the last guy who ringed the bell from US Navy sat in another bar but wanted the farang t-shirt, maybe he thought he had to ring the bell to get one.

what i have been told by a realiable source is yes the is a noticeable difference in Patong but not as many as was expected by the b.g`s.
some seem quite happy at only doing s.t ,some are charging more that the going rate.
they think that the lads are spreading themsleves around more rather than all congrating in one area ,
may be its orders not to be to much of a target or just just to keep things in order.
i myself have been in town many time when the u.s boys have turned up and the only trouble i have ever seen was two maow navy boys squaring up for a few seconds before the m.p moved in .

I hope they are still there when i turn up! I will bring my Red Indian outfit, so all we need is someone in a cowboy and an construction worker, as im sure we could pick up a biker somewhere!

Then we can have a real party at the Y.M.C.A or celebrate the fact that they are "In the Navy"!

On second thoughts, im not one for LB's so i might leave the costume at home!
