Christmas 2005
I have the opportunity of a few weeks off during Jan and Feb 2006. I'd like to make the most of my break and spend as much time as possible in Phuket. What are flights (from UK) and accommodation like between Christmas and the new year? Is there much of a surcharge? Should I wait until early January and have 1 week less.
I'll be travelling alone and intend getting friendly with the BGs - any advice on hotels/private apartments etc.?
Cheers
Gez

last christmas tried to book a flight (australia to phuket) on 25th or 26th. dec
normally can get flight for $1000 to $1100 it was going to cost $2200
double the price, this year going to try for same date and will book early hopefully will be able to get cheaper.
Check out the hotel websites they show high season low season prices.
IMHO hotels are usally not a problem to get a good deal with at any time.

I hope to get back to los for crimbo, But it all depends on whether Ireland make it to the world cup or not, If they do well ill have to give los a miss
But I think it will be great to watch Ireland in the world cup, And I probably wont get to many chances to go see something like that again, So I better do it now while im young and free..... And Ive still got plenty of time left for LOS...........

Well we have no chance of making the world cup
But then this time last year i never thought we would win the grand slam.
Anyway back to the subject.
I hope to spend xmas in LOS and have been looking for flights, they seemed to be in the region of £700 but its far too early to for me to book now.

Dont travel just before Xmas the airlines basically rape you over the price. Second or third week in Jan is not too bad with about 40% reduction in price from UK. After xmas and new year peak period charges the hotel prices dont really come down down until March or April so if you are on your own try Expat or V-Plaza, close to the action ,no joiner fee's, reasonable prices.Been there for last 9 years at this time of year you will have a ball

Update on flights
I've been on the internet and also telephoned some agents. Much to my horror it would appear that £700 is the going rate at the moment for a flight between Christmas and the New Year. Certain amount of Bullsh*t from agents but cost of flights during 1st week of Jan are more expensive. I was advised by one agent to call on a monthly basis to see if any special deals are announced.

Another latest update
Cheers Drunk Farang - I intend being there for 4 weeks at least, I have work commitments ( and p*ss ups) before chrimbo so January is my month off. The latest on flights is an eye opener. ''Onlinetravel'' comes up with £901 for a flight to Phuket from Heathrow on 28th Dec. Same date for Bangkok is £454, so even with an internal flight (I assume less than £50 - please advise), it's still cheap. LOS here I come.

Best offer I have is with Jordanian Airways (£436) - has anybody ever used them? Gets me in to BKK - should I take my chances with Air Asia or pay a bit extra for a more reliable airline or the shuttle to Phuket. I'll be arriving on 29th December.

Have a look at this site www.airlinequality.com, it has an "opinions" section which usually gives a good idea of what to expect.
Cheers
