What are your amazing memories of Thailand ?
Hi,
I have been going to Thailand now for about 4 years, and there have been soooooo many weird and wonderful happy memories that it would take ages to tell them all, but certain little things on the forum trigger off lots of memories that i had forgot.
For some people, the sex is the best, for others, the friends you make.
One of my most amazing memories has to be when I was in Shark Club on Xmas Eve. It was open until 5am, and I went there at about 1am.
As you walked in, there was a machine which was blowing small bits of paper from the roof, onto the dance floor, just like snow. This went on, and on, and on and on until the paper was about ankle deep.
It was amazing, but then at about 3am, they actually had a snow machine ! and for the next 30 minutes there was 'real' snow falling on our skin. It was icy cold when it touched your arms!!
It was incredible. In a hot , sweaty disco, with snow coming down.
What are some of your most amazing memories ?

Great memories
Mine has to be my stay in Issan,
2 weeks there was not enough and as i said before on this forum i was made to feel almost like one of the family by the whole village.
At 1st on arrival after the initial piss up session that seems to greet all visitors, to be honest i felt a little uptight as it was only my 2nd time on thailand and here i was surrounded by nothing but Lao/Issan people.
Many of which could not speak english so when the girl in question would leave me alone with them it was difficult to communicate and quite daunting.
I really don't want to get all religious on you and generally i have always been fairly closed minded about these matters but i was taken to a festival in the daytime where they let off huge rockets by a lake.
Da, took me to a temple where many people were being 'blessed'' by monks or something like that, quite unxepectedly the got hold of me and before i knew it i was dancing around this temple closely followed by many pretty ladies and lots of monks, then taken inside the wat to pray to budda and all the usual stuff you do inside them.
Then later at night a morlam concert was put on which for me was as good as anything else i have expereinced in life, not sure if it was the music, the drink, the burning of incense or what ? But something very strange happened to me which felt like i had been touched by god, I felt very different and so incredibly calm for the remainder of my stay, this lasted a long time after i got back to england.
Something which i cannot explain but it was certainly a very wierd feeling and a memory i won't forget.

On my first trip I ended up with two girls at a dentist in Bangkok. One of them wanted a bracelet and they asked me if I wanted to come along to the dentist. It was suppose to be a real good one and was recommended to them by a family member. I decided to just go along with them. We took a taxi to some centre part of Bangkok and we walked around for about an hour asking lots of locals, where this notorious dentist shop was. In the end we found it in a narrow dead end alley with small shops and market stalls. The roof of this alley was made out of iron plates to keep the rain out.
The shops did not have doors or windows. Actually the shops were more like concrete rooms with no front walls. One of these concrete rooms was suppose to be the dentistshop. Half way this room the dentist put up a paperscreen wall. The front part of the room was the waiting room and the back part was the practice room. As I entered I could see some feet of a customer lying in a chair behind this paperscreen.
After ten minutes an old smiling lady with only one front tooth left, came out from behind the screen. This was the customer by the way and not the dentist The two girls were asked to join the dentist behind the screen.
While I was waiting on a stool I watched two Thai guys working hard on the roof of the alley. They were busy hammering on the iron roofplates. One of these guys was holding a ladder, while the other guy was trying to balance himself on this ladder reaching out to the roof. He made a hell of a noise to hammer the plates into shape. The guy who was supposed to hold the ladder, came into the dentistshop now and then to grab some water from behind the counter for his mate to drink.
When I looked the other way beside the paper screen I could see the two girls. One of them was lying in a chair, while the other one was sitting and smiling on a seat next to her holding her hand. The dentist I could not see. I could only see the hands of the dentist using force on some large plyers to tighten up the bracelet in my friends mouth. Twisting and turning her head. As the dentist finished with the plyers, they were put on a side table next to the dentist chair.
A few minutes later this Thai roofguy walked into the shop again looking for something. This time it was not water, but he needed something else. He dissapeared behind the screen as well and moments later appeared again with the large plyers in his hands. He gave me a friendly nodd as he past me and handed over the plyers to his mate balancing on the ladder. I could see his mate putting his full bodyweight on the plyers to bend the iron plates into the shape he wanted.
This all took less than a few minutes and moments later the pair of plyers was lying on the dentist table again.
Most interesting and very enjoyable to watch ........

For me there is many good memories for this last 3 year , i belive we all
get fun and great memories on all trips we make !!
But i remember wery good my first trip to Phuket with Tarzan and when he should show me the "bar scene" in Patong ....we hitted to Bangla after have had a great dinner ....and i can promise i have "bowling eyes" and a rubber neck that was turned around for every 10 meters we walk ..
I can rembember so well this 3é place we was in .....i said to him ! **** this now i have to take a lady and go back to hotel " i cant handle this anymore"
no way he said !!!! we have many places to discovery before you can go back ....so we walked on to every bar we see still with my "bowling eyes"....and i belive everybody knows how that night finished .....
(But i belive this is normal for everybody first time in LOS )
But i belive my best memorie are when i should visit my gf village in Issan .
I come to Khon Kaen Airport 09:00 am and call to say that now me are here !!! ok she said ....we come and pick you up in 30 min ...so i just go outside and wait and relax in the great heat of Thailand ...so when i was sitting there it comes a pick up with many children on the truck bed .....i was laugh for my self .....this can only be in LOS ....then i discovery !!! what a **** ....its my gf and her family that comes to pick me up !!!!
so it was just to handle my bags to the children and jump on ....and go to village ! and when we arrive there was around 25 - 30 people that was wathing to see "the farang" and more people was coming when we arrived.
Then they start to have a welcome party for me with food, beer, whisky at 10 am in the morning ...so there was just to join the party ....
after 1 our i decide to change clothes after my long trip so i walked in to there house and start to change ...then i realise ..what a **** !!! there was 5 - 6 people that have put there heads in the window to see the white farang to change clothes !!!!! then out again and party more ...and its was only me and my gf that speak english ...the rest was only speak thai but i have a really great party and its was fun to give all the thai men " Swedish snuff" and see how they react when they put it under they lip !!
I stay there for 6 days and it was a wery fun memorie and experience ...

Great idea mike...Just one pulled out of the file.
As I sit here going through my mind, pouring over the pages that make up my thoughts and memories, I find myself being taken back to an area many of you have already mentioned, the northeastern portion of Thailand holds many things both mind opening and mystical.
I have not told this story to anyone, at least not as of yet. I don't know why there are times in your life when you feel a connection to others, just as I don't understand my connection with some of you, but it exists and is real whatever its purpose.
While visiting family and friends of my gf, we are driven out into the country, down roads even the buffalo would complain about. We are headed back into time or so it seems and as we long loose sight of a paved road I can tell not many people travel this route by the sheer lack of anyone to be seen. We finally get to our destination; a house that you or I would not recognize as a house, but a place in a field of dust and few scantly clad trees.
The house appears to have long sense been abandoned by the former occupants, now only god knows what lives here. I can remember thinking to myself oh great another wild goose chase trying to find yet another long lost relative....when much to my disbelief people start showing up, seemingly out of no where as if dropped into place by some kind of power that I could not possibly understand.
Much to my amazement people do in fact live here, while it has been a very dry season with little remaining food stocks and surely more tough times ahead. I am greeted by smiles and little attempts to make me feel welcome, fruit and sticky rice brought out to welcome us.
We sit on a bamboo platform looking out upon almost nothing, the earth blackened by the fires that have been cleaning up what remains of last years rice fields, the smoke almost a constant reminder that nothing is alive.
I hold my head down for a moment as I am offered a drink...whiskey of some sorts...more medicine as they sometimes will say. I am blown away by the generosity of a people who have so little, their willingness to entertain and laugh even as times are so hard.
I watched with much amazement the amount of work that goes into just the living part of things here, no complaints heard amongst the family or anything other than lighthearted joking about the farrang that came to visit.
The children each washed on the porch with a bucket, never once letting out a whimper or complaint that the water was too hot or too cold, not one time did I witness a child speak back with discontent to the parent even when it was time to handle a daily chore. I was without question taken back to a time long ago lost.
In all of my life I have never been treated with more respect than during those days, this from a group of people I have never met, but will without question never forget.
This time when my stay was over and I had to depart for the comfort of my own home, I am reminded of the smiles and waves that seem to never leave my mind...calling me back to a place where people respect each other and no matter what are so willing to smile and share what they have...even when they themselves have nothing at all.

I dont know if its my best memeory but this one really sticks in my mind..
For those of us that stay here long term, despite many many benefits (cost food girls etc) you do start to see the belly of the beast so to say.. The land of smiles often becomes the land of false smiles as things like T money, double pricing, inability to accept blame or responsibility etc all sink in.. Anyway I was going through a grump period on Thailand as I was having some red tape issues that were starting to make me think that I was really not welcome in Thailand (leave your money at the airport and go type of feelings that I am sure many have had)...
So I end up in Phuket Town and cause my girl had checked the movie times we inevitably ended up 5 mins after one showing had started and had 2 hours to kill until the next one.. So we walked off down the road and ended up going into T2 club just down the road from Robinson..
I was the only farang face in there with about 10 Thais at another table.. pretty quiet for the size of the club.. After 1/2 hour or so one of the managers came over smiling introduced himself and said stick around they would have a band on soon.. So the band comes on, the place fills up a bit but not much.. They are doing thai cover songs and deffo need a bit of practice but were having real fun as was the audience, everyone horsing around and having a laugh... There was one flagrant gay guy funnily bouncing about and pretending to swoon over the lead singer (it was obvious many of them knew each other well)...
Then the guitarist comes on the mike and says something in Thai that had my girl bouncing about in fits of joy and clapping and I could tell I was being talked about... Far from giving me any wind up he had just told her to apologize to me that he could not speak english well enough and want to say it was great to see a farang happy to come out to a Thai place and socialize and to say to her I was really welcome.. He then tried his best in broken engrish to say "herro wercome to Phuket, and wercome to T2 crub" which then got a cheer from the rest of the whole audience and he launched into the only English song he knew...
Loads of guys then proceeded to come over shake hands, smile and press whisky soda's etc on me..
Could you imagine anything happening like that to welcome a single foriegner into a locals club back home.. Probably get the shit kicked out of him for being with one of 'our' girls..
Totally restored my faith in the 'average' Thai.. the red tape and tea money can piss you off sometimes but when it comes down to it Thais are a really open friendly lot.. Treat them with a bit of respect and away from the worst of the tourist areas it is rewarded so well.

Great thread Mike, mine was just one of those days that nothing happened but everything happened.
It was a sunny day on Karon beach and I saw one of those long tail boats parked offshore so I swam out and introduced myself to the owner we got to talking and he said business was a bit slow, to relieve the boredom he said he would comp me a free tour.
It was a great day just cruising around and talking to this guy who had lived in Patong all his life, he invited me out to Phuket Town that night with his mates to watch some Thai boxing.
Later that night he stopped by my hotel to pick me up then we went into town for a boys night out Thai style it ended up being a top night out.

A fond memory l have was from a trip l made Aug 04 of a group of girls in Malibu Bar (First or second in Soi Eric) l BF'd a girl there the first nite l was in patong, then called in the next night to find out what l had got up to as l was so drunk it was all a bit blurred.
Anyway, l did not bar fine any more girls from that bar but l would call in for a drink as my first port of call (one of the reasons l never made it to MTB as they would never let me past ) We would play the usual games....u know Connect 4 and the Blocks etc.......then one day when l was shopping at Tesco's l noticed a game of Snakes & Ladders for about 150 baht...so l thought l would buy it and see if the liked playing that instead...well they absolutely loved it, and would shreek with joy everytime they zoomed up a ladder, and would of course scream disappointment when they met with a snake. So here was me playing Snakes & Ladders half the nite with about 6 Bar Girls.... It was amazing how much fun a silly little game like that could bring so much enjoyment to these girls.....they are all truly wonderful

That is a lovely story.
Giving joy to those girls is the next best thing to getting joy from them.

An amazing memory
I have a lot of memories about thailand, too.
But one night i will never forget. Until now i never speak about that.
It was the time i `ve been in patong for a few month and wanted to stay about one year.
I had a thai girlfriend and loved her very much. We lived togehter and i didn`t cheat her or wanted to do so.
But then, i think everybody knows this times, we had some probs. Don`t remember why, but it wasn`t becaus another girl.
So i went out alone, met some people i knew and ended full like a horse in the vienna bar.
I wasn`t looking for girls, but then i saw a very nice one.... So what can i say... it was a lb.
Beeing a few months here i knew them. Never tried one before ... and yes i went with her.
She was very nice (nothing there what makes you think it was a man before) and here we go.
She was from Singapore and as far as i remember we had a lot of fun.... (i was really drunk).
In the morning i wake up and couldn`t believe it what i have done...
(today i would say: i went to the dardkside....)
After a while i felt the need to go to the toilet. So i ask her where it is and she said outside the room, down the floor.
She reminded me to take a towel, but i said "mai bpen lai" and went to the toilet naked.
Finished there i opened the door and there stand about five or six lbs on the floor watching me, smiling and inviting me to their rooms
for a free session.... "hi sexy man" and all this. (They had their fun, i think!)
Oh my god... I was in a house full of lbs..... and as far as i ve seen only lbs.....
Within one second i became sober....
That was a feeling!!!
Hugo
(needless to say my tgf knew it already when i came home to our room....)
sry for my bad english, i`ll try to improve it.

About myself, amazing is maybe not the right word, but emotional yes!
For years I go to Kata-beach. There is a nice lady, older then myself renting chairs. She is there with all her family.
When I heard about the Tsunami, my first thought was about her!!! I could not imagine that she had survived , because i knew, she was there allready in the morning.
The first thing I did last time was to ride with my bike to the beach. I parked my bike and went to her stand!
She saw me coming (she knows me very well), and we fell in each other arms! She seems to know that I worried a lot about her.
Then she, told her story about the Tsunami, bought my wife and I a drink, brought us fruits. We were just people happy to be around each other again....
But I never understand why she had a picture -album with all the horrible things that happens during the Tsunami, corps included...
Included not a bg, but my best friend in Los!

My first time in Phuket and Thailand was for 10 days in October 2004. It was just the best time ever. At first when we landed, it was a bit of a culture shock. Outside the airport there was loads of taxis waiting to take people to hotels etc, and it was just quite hectic.
The drive to the hotel was a strange one. It wasn't like anything I had imagined. Every 50 metres or so, I seemed to see an old coca-cola sign and people selling cold drinks. For some reason I remember that vividly. They were everywhere.
Then, when we were driving down Patong beach road, it just looked great. All the markets, and all the peoples, the tuk-tuks.
We stayed at the amari coral beach resort (which is sadly closed until August) and it was a beautiful hotel. The staff were great.
And then the nightlife! Wow - I'll never experience anything like it again, unless I go back to Phuket. Bangla Road is my favourite nightlife spot ever. Bar after bar full of sexy chicks and everyone is up for a great time. The beer is cheap and your guarenteed a taxi home!!!
I think I'll get my photos sorted out and post a few on here!

Great idea Mike. These are fun to read.
Aside from my first trip last November which was amazing all by itself, my most memorable time was waiting at BKK airport for my flight to Phuket on December 26th 2004 and having it canceled because of "flooding". I remember thinking; how could they have flooding during the dry season. I didn't find out until I got back to my hotel about the tsunami.
