Very difficult to find a good "Thai" here in Provence!
Many are Vietnamese, also offering a kind of Thai food
But, one hour drive, there is a good Thai restaurant in St Laurent du Var, near Nice.
Luckily, my wife, can cook quite some things out of the Thai kitchen.
Chicken /meat with basil leaves, a fantastic red/green curry, Pat Thai, Yam nua... So the best restaurant must be at home, because she cooks this really well!
In Antwerp where I use to live, no shortage! There is a F A N T A S T I C one near central station. Better then many in Thailand and a favourite, when I return to my roots!

The most authentic here is Thai Nakorn for real Thai & Lao food in Stanton (close to Knotts Berry Farm). There is a large selection of places in "Thaitown" which is in Hollywood. And almost every other corner in southern California has a token american/thai restaurant.

Sainsburys
Sainsburys is a large supermarket chain here in the UK. I have noticed recently that Singha Beer is now available in my local supermarket and takeway Thai food is available in the "good for you" section!

Here in Copenhagen the best Thai restaurant that I have tried is actually a take-away shop. It is a Danish guy that owns it but it is two thai girls in the kitchen making the food. It is really good although it is somewhat expensive by danish standards.

As for a "real" thai restaurant the best place to go in Copenhagen is Sala Thai. Really good food, good cosy restaurant and friendly staff. The prices are also more that fair so all in all it's a good place to go.

Second , is http://www.kohphangan.nu/framestart.html. A really good restaurant with good food in a great place.. Feels like being in LOS.
But the best is home...GF`s somtam, or Tod Man Moo, Khao phad krapao........

I haven't dared try any in this country, but in the area where I work (Finsbury/Islington, London) just about every second restaurant or pub is either Thai or has a sign saying "Thai Food Here". There's more Thai food in this place than in Thailand. There are even two mobile Thai food trailers almost next to one another on the same market back street (Whitecross Street).
Cheers,
K.

In my hometown nothing but in Antwerp which is not too far there are a lot of good restaurants. Like River Kwai, Sombat, Ploy Ponchana and others I didn`t try yet. For the Belgians in the area of Antwerp a list with some of the restaurants http://www.thaisrestaurant.be/cat/in...p?cat=1&page=1

hi there Tyfon.
In 2001 I was in london and stayed (like many aussies) in earls court.
There was a nice little thai restaurant opposite the station there, even
sold icy cold singhas.
and was thai owned and run.

There are two very good Thai restaurants in Brussels on Avenue Louise down near Chausee de Waterloo (towards La bois de la Cambre). Expensive but authentic. I got told off for taking an orchid from a big display near the door

Been a long time I went to one in Brussels!
In that neighberhood there was "Elephant bleu". Very fancy and expensive, but not always the best. depends on the cook they employ!
Did go to one of their other ventures in Paris. Very, bad, no authenticity-taste.
But as in belgium Thai foods popularity has increased and that neighberhood is rather fancy, you are proberly talking about other ones...

You will not find as many Indonesian restaurants in Belgium. I do know a few in Antwerp.
In Holland not same-same! Indonesia has been a Dutch Colonia.
Many Indonesians came to Holland. Wich explains that you saw many Indonesian restaurants there.
Flemish/Belgians and Dutch share the same basic -language. They roots and behaviour are very different! When in soccer they are playing against each other, everybody goes mad!
But ...in a positive way...We do not take our differences seriously and many jokes are made about it!
I am in a special situation....My mother was Dutch, my father came from the french side of Belgium and I lived all my life, till now, in Antwerp
Now you know why I am all "fuc*ed up"!

Amsterdam is the place for these. There is a menu called a Rice Table and you need plenty of time and a big appetite to get through it

Thai restaurants
I'm in the DC area and have tried maybe 5 or 6 of the local Thai restaurants. Most are pretty good, although the food is considerably more expensive than it would be in Thailand. Imagine paying 320 baht for a plate of Pad Thai.

I have tried many Thai restaurants here in Brisbane (Australia) & have found them all to be crap, all the time i hear my friends say that this or that is the best Thai restaurant they have been to, they haven't been to Thailand or they would know better.
To me it's not the same as in Thailand maybe the food here is not hot enough or they keep it simple in Thailand. I may order a papaya salad here in Oz but it's totally different from what i get in Thailand.
So i can't wait to get back there for some real Thai food & i have all but gave up looking over here for a Thai restaurant. But if there is any board members from Brisbane that can give me a name of a good restaurant please do.
Two things i miss about Thailand
Thai Pussy
Thai Food

MMM do not totally agree on this one.....
I come to Thailand for 15 years now. If you stay at touristic places, like Phuket, Koh Samui, it can really su*ck!
As tourist complain about the chili, many restaurants make Europeanised food. That this is bit less spicy, I don't care about , but that it has no flavour and is more sweet then anything, that is a different matter...
In the North, food is more regular, then in the South. In Phuket, I am not that found of the green Curry. They put bamboo-shoots in it, it taste to sweet, and it is not refined enough. In stead of "green" it is even more yellow! They put also a lot of vegetables in it, wich should not be!
I like this plate a lot, when it is well made! In fact I ate it perfect only once, and that was in the Traditional Thai restaurant in the Dusit Laguna!
But I normally do not eat in those fancy places!
I don't know if I told this here, when I sold my wine-business, i started a Thai restaurant in Antwerp. I had a very nice chef, wich was in his free time a "ladyboy" by the way! I sold the business after 3 years because my chef was made parter in an other restaurant and because Belgian taxes took all the pleasure of working away!
