Similan Islands

Hi i have a question about the Similan islands. When i am going to Thailand again i wanna do some diving around the Similan islands. Now i am looking on the internet to see if its possible to just take a boat from Phuket to the Islands and stay there in a hostel and book some dives from there. But all i can find is overnight dive trips from the mainland. I even start to wonder if it is possible at all to stay the night there. Is there anybody who has done this before ?

Thank you in advance.

I went to Similan a few years ago. Beautiful island but dirty around the camping area and it's far away from Phuket for a one day trip. If I remember, it was 2 hours by bus, then 3 hours by boat ... 3 hours on the island the time to come back.

before the tsunami there was some bungalows out there and a camping site to, but i dont now if this is still there/open now, but anyway take a liveaboard cruise, this is the best way to dive upp there.

Liveaboard is the only way to really do it. Theres no gear available on the islands, the camp site is only for the spaced out backpacker types. There are day trips but you basically see the worst of the Similins. Do a 3 day it's the best and it lets your liver and fun tackle recover from Patong excesses.

Before the tsunami it was posible to stay at Island no4 and at Donald Duck bay on island no8.

It is not possible to stay at Donald Duck Bay, the camp is destroyed by the tsunami(see the attached pictures). On our liveaboard we was not in land on island no4 so I don't know the situation on this island

On My homepage you can see some of the underwater pictures i took on my trip to similan in March
