Langkawi or Penang?
Hey All,
Long time since I was on the board, reading about everyones tales of LOS, I hope everyone is safe and well!
I need some opinions please for my next holiday with my GF
Langkawi or Penang?
I'm leaning towards Langkawi, but some people are telling me that Penang is better for cheap clothes, restaraunts and like.........
All responses appreciated.

As a Malaysian, I myself prefer Penang. Personally, I think Langkawi is too boring.

I am off to Langkawi at the end of this week for 12 days. Well splitting that between a few days in KL and Singapore also. A friend of mine told me that the beaches in Penang were very dirty and the ocean was murky. Others have also told me how beautiful Langkawi is. Although it may be a little boring on the night life side, it is more for relaxing and exploring the outer islands which are said to be stunning.
Penang, is great for shopping and food, culture etc. But for a better beach style holiday I would choose Langkawi.
Have a great trip!
Ashely

penang is ALOT cheaper ,better for shopping, incredible food etc but the beaches ain't that good.langkawi is very beautiful ,lots of rainforest but populated mostly by big exclusive ,expensive resorts, chalk and cheese really

Much ado about nothing
Lankawi is a great place if you want to do nothing for two weeks.Apart from the Hotels and the great scenery there is very little else there. If youare going to Penang to get the best you need to hire a car as there a number of secluded beaches a short drive from the main hotel drag.As for nightlife, in Langkawi apart from the hotels there is nothing.Penang town is quite good for night life.Batu Ferrenghi where the main hotels are situated is somewhat isolated from Penang town.I would suggest a hotel in Georgetown and then either car or taxi to the beach when you want to.Then come back to town for the (cheaper)drinks, nightlife and food.
Having said that Langkawi is beautiful but limited in facilities.

Hi all,
as I also thinked about changing place and visiting Malaysia with my girlfriend (Penang or Langkawi), I'm also interested by the question, and have a few things to ask:
1. What about visa formalities (for a thai girl) to enter Malaysia ?
2. What is the cost of life in Penang (accomodation, food, ...)?
3. Where to stay? What to see? Any suggestions are welcome.
Regards,
Bobby
