Wasnt it r3aps that hired a car and went to Samui?

I would love to do that. It is a nice country and a great scenery along the way. Only went by bus, and that wasnt fun...

Maybe i mixing things up...Or it is another BM that did that trip and talked about it..

But i know that it is no problem taking a car on the ferry.. I want to hire a car some day and go to Samui. Just a relaxed trip, where i can stay where i want. There is some beautiful places along that road.

To take the ferry near Surat Thani shouldn't be a problem. But to drive from Phuket to Surat Thani you should be a very good driver. There are different opporunities on road Choice to get there. But most of them are busy roads.

I did it around 4 times but by Minibus. And in the future i will fly. I never gonna do it again.

Talking

Yes , the cheap way to travel in Thailand , by bus hehehe
Went by bus from Bangkok to Wanon/Sakorn Nakorn/Isaan , a 11½ hour ride just to see my friends "mother inlaw" hahaha
Hell i was nearly in Lao but never knew because no one in the village knew how to read the map
I could have killed them all !
Never again ... to much Aircond , no sleep and my kidneys where more then out of order after that trip .. or was it Sangsom ??

Easy

Drove to Koh Samui from Phuket in March. A very nice drive with lots of interesting scenery.
We only got lost trying to find the ferry terminal.
There are a couple of different companies that do the ferry trip and the ferries seemed to be running all the time. We had about an hour wait.
It was good to have a car on Samui. I didn't realise the island was so big.
It can be a bit busy going through some of the towns but generally a fairly easy drive.
Steve.

Cool

As Senor123 said the only thing you really need to make sure of is that you go to the Ratcha Ferry Co wharf as the other is I think called Raja which takes about an extra hour and is a big old cluncker that doesnt have very much in the way of facilities. The Ratcha Ferry Co is the one to the left as you drive down to where the ferry peirs are everything is fairly orderly and goes quicky but you need to make sure you get there early in order to get on as the lines can get pretty long and we had to wait an extra hour until the next one came on the way back. I have the timetable and prices we paid last year so I can get you them but it is very very reasonable I think around 300 baht for two adults and the car, I will update when I find the documents.

I would suggest that you go and worry about the cost later - great place if you like beachlife !!

Cheers

I would guess that travelling with the family in tow does make things considerably more expensive, unlike travelling solo.

You`re quit wright on that one. I just have one luck that we can stay with family or friends.

Too right Steve Airfare £500+ no, think £2000+ paying for 4 makes one trip a year a costly thing to do.Thats why I'm determined to have a great time when I do arrive.
