English Teaching????

Can anybody give me some advice with regards to english teaching in Patong? I have checked some web sites ect. and have found numerous institutions, however wondering more about availability of positions, money, hrs. Would be great to hear from blokes that are teaching/have taught, or know mates that have. Thanks again.

Theres a whole forum on Thaivisa..

I am lead to believe that approx 40k per month THB is normal for an English teacher.. this assumes ESL certified.. I am also lead to believe that nearly never are work permits obtained and you will normally be working illegally or at least in the initial period.

40k would be pretty good for Phuket.

If you have good teaching credentials then possibly. Chances are you'll be earning less than that, at least to start with.

Work permits depend on who your employers are as they are the ones who have to apply for it. You could get one within a couple of weeks but much more likely is that they won't bother getting you one at all.

You should do some research on the school who will be hiring you. Some are good, some aren't.

Above all, make sure they pay your taxes. Working without a work permit can get you deported, but if your taxes are not in order then you can go to prison (you really don't want to go to prison here).

Good luck.
