Thumbs down Posting items from the UK to Thaialnd

Well Im gutted

I got my mate to send my Sony Viao Laptop & Netgear wireless router to me by registered post

That was 3 weeks ago and no sign of the computer turning. I got the parcel tracked and they can tell exactly when it left Heathrow but no nothing else

I suspect some thai guy is very proud of his new computer and wireless access to the internet or either thai customs have confiscated it

Anybody got any idea what I should do nex to recover it?

The package was insured upto 500 uk sterling but it comes nowhere near the value this wasa top end laptop

Mate, you should've DHL'd it. I would never consider using the postal system for sending anything other than an envelope, and even then its hit and miss.

Sorry about your loss.

Uh. bad news.

I would never send expensive things like that by regular mail. You should have used DHL/UPS or similar instead.

That postal service is nowhere reliable, especially not if the packages have some value. In the past I have lost lot of letters and packages, both ways, but nothing expensive but you got irretated anyway.

I just hope it is delayed and will show up soon, one time I received a letter after 3 months.

I thought it would be ok since it was insured and the UK parcel delivery service is very reliable

Stupid of me but I though the UK service could track it to its destination. Im getting my mate to look into this to if they can contact their Thai counterparts to see if they have a record of the delivery. At least then I will no if its gone for good or whether to keep enquiring

I have lost so much through Thai mail...

If its more than a couple of dollars worth I register it and moe than 100 USD would UPS..

Next step is for him to claim the insurance in the UK.. Thing is though they usually have about a 12 - 16 week 'trace time' which they wont pay out until it has been waited the whole while..
