Mikegb I was in my local bar...

the other night and only one guy there who I hadn't seen before (no I don't usually notice guys). Anyway the guy was having a few bets on the horses and as I work for a horse racing organisation I got talking to him. He is over from England in NZ to see his sister for about three weeks. Then he said he is going back to Thailand, so my ears perked up when he mentioned that. By chance I actually met his brother at the race-track about 15 years ago but he has since pased away. His wife died about 2 years ago, he is 62 and he went to Thailand about 2 years ago (obviously had to have a few days to get over the Mrs), well he went down to Pattaya and met a bar girl about 35 who is now his girlfriend. She wants him to marry him but I think hes too sharp for that action. The bar he met her at is owned by the girls mother and apparently she has diabeties and wants to sell so he is going to buy the bar for the girl next month and go half in the profits. He said bar will cost about 20k and is on the beach. It was a good night exchanging stories and I will catch up with him tonight for another round of laughs. He said when he returns he has about 16 guys from England coming over to play golf for a week or two. Tipped a winner that paid $21-1 so he will be buying a few tonight.
He said a new horse track is going up in Pattaya but I havn't heard about that, anyone here herad any news??

The dying wife........

Hi Kiwi Steve,

Imagine this scene............

It is the world cup finals. England against Brazil. The stadium is full to capacity, but one man manages to find a single seat. As he sits in it, he turns to the man next to him and says " that was lucky finding this seat "

"It was mine" said the man "I had two seats booked months and months ago for the finals of the world cup. It was for my wife, but she died".

"Oh, Im really sorry to hear that" said the man. "Do you not have any friends or family that could have come here in her place?"

"No," replied the man "They are all at the funeral" .

To answer your question, I dont know where I had heard it, but I thought they were going to build a Casino in Pattaya.

Is there enough people who breed and race horses in Thailand to organise a meeting? I couldnt see how they would manage it, but I really dont know.

Kiwi Steve

Since noone answered your question, I'll give you what I heard.

The was a big power struggle in the Royal Turf Club of Bangkok, including as I remember it the brother of the PM Thaksin Shinawatra, Chaisit.

As I remember it the Royal Turf Club is in a financial mess and may sell it's land and relocate to Pattaya.

Chaisit I think was defeated in the power struggle, but that didn't alter the fact of the financial problems of the club. It was announced that the RTC may relocate to pattaya on land donated by a rich local businessman.

I haven't heard anything in several months, and I'm not sure if it will happen for sure or not, certainly last i read the land transfer was near completion.

Try a search through the Bangkok Post archives, should be a lot more detail there.
