An appeal for sanity

I am new here, so someone will probably tell me to shut up.Before joining this forum, I lurked for a while, liked what I saw, so I joined in.
Phuket Info was the name of the forum!!!
I used to enjoy just reading through comments, jokes etc. However, in the last month or so it seems to me that almost any thread is hijacked with nasty, evil bad mouthed infighting between board members who use the forum to settle some form of argument or one upmanship.I am not going to agree or disagree with any of these arguments. It does not make pleasant reading.
God forbid anyone who takes a moral stance or voices an opinion that is not the norm. They risk being totally flamed. No I am not talking about giving sound advice or taking up an opposite stance. No its the level that some people want to drag the arguments down to.
A healthy argument is good, everyone is entitled to their opinion but why take it so far. I assume everyone who contributes is a normal intelligent person but most of the flamining that goes on is almost at schoolboy level with an endless tirad of swearwords and personal insults.
If this carries on maybe the forum name should change from Phuket info to Phuketflame.
Sorry guys but the bad posts seem to colour the whole forum.
Maybe, because I a new here I should sit back and say nothing, then I will not get flamed but how many other lurkers are reluctant to post because of what they read what happens if they do say something contraversial(i know thats spelt wrong).

Yes exactly, some folks on here have been complaining about the high level of moderation recently, but it is necessary to keep this board as intended, friendly and open.

Personnal posting battles will be deleted from now on.

Cee Cee don't worry thre are some strong caracters on the board, being here a long time.

I have been flamed a lot when I started here, also because I just say what I think, but with no intention to be mean to anybody.

On the contrary being on the board for a while and everybody seem to gotten used to this nutcase, I got a loth of warmth and sympathy!

Must say I agree with you Cee Gee, I lurked for quite a while before posting and it seemed to be friendly and informative board. Unfortunately it does appear to have been hijacked by a few with thier own personal axe to grind.
In my experience {WHOOHOO 100 POSTS!!!} If you say something the sages of the board disagree with your ass is toast!!
Please Please don't ask a question that they have heard before or they may just die of boredom before they flame your ass in replying.
That said Nicke & Steve I appreciate your efforts in keeping this board running as in between the flame wars there is a wealth of information to be learned. Thanks look forward to meeting you.

I know there are quite a few BM's who have moved onto other thai message boards if they want to have a topical debates/discussions on things that are outside standard questions like..how much should u pay for a tuk tuk , what is the weather like etc..as all such threads have been getting deleted............

I think the reputation point system promotes this sort of thing. Have seen it cause trouble on three other message boards.

Debates and discussions are good, it just doesnt seem as though we can have them here of late, without degenerating into a flaming and slanging match between several BM's, and this is when moderation begins. Lately this seems to be occurring all too often. The main charter of this board is open and friendly, and no flaming.

I think we need to restrain ourselves and exercise self-control from making any comments that can potentialy be seen as sacrastic and harmful to another member of the board that might lead to an unpleasent atmosphere for all. If Thailand and its people is what we love then perhaps we could learn something positive from the thais' attitude towards each other, mai pen rai.

What's done is done and the past should be put behind us, bringing things up would only create more heated exchange that I hope is not what members of this board want nor do new members need to see. Thailand, Phuket, and its culture is the subject matter here and why don't we stay with it and enjoy each other's company?

I hope I'm not being to naive.

Its easier said than done, Especially when a certain BM keeps on having little digs and putting smart arsed comments on every thread you post on!!!

IMHO I reckon personal attacks are the problem ,
also on this board a lot of BM have actually meet each other.
moderation is needed if you have a problem with someone send a private message then we all dont have to read about it.
with same questions being asked I dont have a problem with that and now with the newbie area doesnt happens as often (I believe this section is great and some of the older BM are doing the right thing)

I agree with this philosophy. Let's keep the Board an open and friendly place. That doesn't mean that there is no room for discussion and differences of opinion. But when having a debate or discussion over difference, it would be nice if we could treat each other with some modicum of civility!

When people can not be moderate in their own behavior, then that's what we have a moderator for.

Unfortunately, when posts or a whole thread is deleted, some people's thoughts and ideas, who had absolutely nothing to do with the flaming match that brought about the deletions, get lost in the shuffle. That is an unfortunate result that is probably unavoidable at times. Don't blame the moderator. He's not the cause the of the problem, but only trying to maintain a friendly atmosphere on the Board, for the sake of veteran BMs, newbies, all in between, and visitors alike.

So, while no one is perfect, I think that SteveM should get some applause for making a sincere effort, and not just criticism. Thanks, SteveM! I applaud your efforts!

OPEN and FRIENDLY! That is what has made this a great forum!

JayBee

You cut one of mine earlier today - you know which one and it was not abusive or flaming anyone.

Mate, I take some offense at that statement. I dont careless if I agree with a post or not, thats my personal problem, and one which doesnt come into a moderation decision.

As has been said before, if a post is deleted for some reason, then any subsequent post which contains any reference to that post will also be deleted, and I dont know which post it was that your referring to, as I dont look at who the poster is when a post is deleted, as that doesnt come into the decision to delete or not.

There have been numerous posts lately, which just the way they are worded, are just out there looking to provoke come sort of posting war.

Do you all want this board to become like someother Thai related boards, which I'll not name, but are totally out of control. ?????

Nicke and I had a chat about this last night, and he is still of the opinion that this board is to be friendly, and not somewhere for folks to release their agression towards other BM's.

but but... :)

I'm a member of a few Thailand forum type boards, and this is one the ones where I've not truly been flamed yet, nor offended by any members. I like hearing different opinions, so long as they aren't attacks against one another because those opinions aren't someone elses. Things like "you f***ing moron, Billy-boy.. how could you not pay her after that? You're a piece of s***!"... Those kinds of posts are pretty pointless... I've not seen that here though, but then again, I'm just a junior little one here... Hopefully I won't see those either! Keep up the moderation!!

Well I consider this forum to be reasonably open minded. Granted there are some strong personalities on here and more flaming in recent times.

The reason I go to Phuket is purely for ladyboys and besides the occasional misinformed, homophobic fool, even those who are not into the scene are open minded and offer help. This forum has some very valuable information about the Phuket scene regardless of what you are into. Hopefully it will continue to offer this without too much fear of being flamed.

No one is getting flamed here because everyone doesnt share their oppinion.
But when people comes here and start to tell their own truths, having never been here and asume things, and get rude when people ask what they mean, then they deserve to get shit.

It isnt the best way to get friends here by start your first post about how much you hate the barscene, or start to tell people that they should come out and admitt that they are bisexual because they go with LB`s.
Or make a big announcement about their arrival, and then cancel due to a terrorist threat no one heard about. And get rude when people have doubts about it..

You can post what the hell you want, but stand for what you write, and reply to the questions asked if it is contriversal... Then no one will flame you, even if you have a different oppinion...

It should be acceptable for people to hate the barscene and not get flamed. If you don't like or agree with someone who says it then don't pay any attention. There is alot more to Phuket and Thailand than the barscene.

Of course it is acceptable, but why come here and boast out about it? There are much better places to post on then here in that case. Right?

I've never came across anyone boasting about hating the bargirl scene and the content of this forum goes alot further than the BG scene. It is a fountain of knowledge for most things Thai

Maybe you should read more posts then. There was a thread not long ago that started like that...

But you are right. Thailand is more then just bars and bargirls.

Well personally I do not see what all the fuss is about. If this sexygirl is the real deal or not so what? If she comes to Thailand or not so what. I certainly have better things to worry as I am sure do all of you.

About sxygirl the discussion wasnt about her comming or not, it was about her claiming it was a terrorist threat no one heard about, and people thought it was strange..
