how is it that .......
Hi Fellas,
how is that the bg rules are different depending on whether you are a farang or a tilak??
what is the "i missyou"
"i only like you so i stay with you more"
"i have different feeling with you"
"you are not same as other falang"
it`s a big generalization but what is the ultimate to be gained by a bg??
do most want to go to falangland and live?surely they have spoken to other tg`s who`ve said it`s not what it`s cracked up to be
or would they prefer one or even many falangs to be just sending money, I know it`s all about money for family but what would be the preffered way of getting it is my question
cheers guys
btw i did an enquiry about patong villa in june and they said there is a 300 baht joiner fee,er thats not what i`ve read from other bm`s on this forum.....any thoughts on me saying i`ll stay there but i wont pay a joiner fee,i`m thinking in june it will be quite anyway...............of course i would print up all my emails and take with me

i kinda meant that if i was to make a booking for the hotel but only if there is no joiner fee, hoping they would accept the booking knowing it`s june and any guest is better than a no guest at that time of year for them

I think you'll find that they probably wont care, stay and pay or go elsewhere. By all means ask them.

Hi Merlin.
My take on the girl thing is this. The ultimate would be a western man that she physically liked and actually cared about. Someone that could solve all her problems and that she would be proud to be seen with.
They have brought an amount of shame on themselves (here goes with the 'face' concept) by going to work in Phuket or Pattaya. Catching a big fish, a bloke wealthy enough to build them a house and look after their mum for instance, will go a long way to restoring their reputation.
Of course, young women the world over dream of big weddings with flowers and huge parties; they like the idea of a Mills & Boon romance. They want the happy ending I think, which pretty much makes them the same as me, I like a happy ending too...
I think that they talk about going abroad, but don't really understand that it entails living in a country where everything is different. It seems to come as a real rude awakening when it happens and then they really want to go home to their mum. The family tie should not be underestimated.
To summarise: I believe that to make a Thai girl (any girl?) happy you should be; young, good looking (or at least not circus ugly), wealthy and single, happy to live in the boonies near her mum and willing to pick up every bill that comes onto her radar. Sounds great eh?
Only my opinion though, I could be a million miles wide of the mark. Maybe all you need is love

clear as mud steve@thai
5555555 yup thanks steve@thai,it`s great isn`t,I suppose it`s the same the world over, everything stays the same until it changes, everything is free until you have to pay......but on the "shame"point you made, surely their family is not ashamed of their daughter,I mean she is the one who is getting off her lovely small bum to do something to get money.....if it was that shameful then they wouldn`t take the money but jeezus that opens a whole other can of worms doen`t it that fill a 1000 forums...

Don't underestimate the concept of 'face'. Everyone in her village will know where she has gone and what she does for a living. The big fish would help right the wrong that she has wrought on her family.
Yes it's a conundrum, as you say they take the money, but we can't expect it all to make sense to our western mind.
Try this; go to a bar and ask a bargirl 'how much for long time'. Now, when you wake up in the morning, ask her if she minds being a prostitute, just make sure you are stood well back and there are no sharp things to hand. I would bet long odds-on that not one bargirl in the country sees herself as a ******. And just for the record, neither do I, it's far more complex than that.
According to my dictionary though, a prostitute is 'one who offers sexual intercourse for money', so work that one out. We, westerners, are conditioned into a 'what you see is what you get' mentality. In Thailand, it ain't neccessarily so.

Hey Merlin,
I just stayed at Patong Villa in April and there was no joiner fee. I specifically asked in one of my emails and they write back that there was no joiner fee.
The person from Patong Villa that wrote that to me was called Surasak - maybe you will have more luck with her.

Maybe they have a line of big heavy blokes that tries to tackle the girl and pitch her out. If you can get past them and get her to your room, then no joiner fee. If she is tackled, then you pay. I wonder if they use a ball, how many tries you get before you have to punt, and what happens if she fumbles the ball? Also do you get to run interference for her?

He he.. yeah you would think that
When I was there I linked up with 3 aussies that also stayed at Patong Villa and they had "longterm" BG's staying with them. We all used the pool area and other hotel facilities without any problems at all. The funny thing is that my impression of the hotel and people staying there was that everyone had a BG that stayed with them - maybe the hotel staff saw a potential in making an extra income now

Not too clear is it? Sorry about that, but I do take it to mean no joiner fee. And it made me laugh too

I've even heard it goes so far as so long as the girl is "working", the family will happily accept the money that comes from such. But, as soon as she can no longer "work", and just stops, then she is not too welcome back to the family due to the fact she was a prostitute. (the whole saving face thing again...) Thus, as stated above, if she can land a fish and right some of those past wrongs, THEN she can be forgiven. This is why, again I'm only told, by the time they start reaching the 25 years old mark, they start getting more clingy and looking for that fish more feverishly.. It's said the "life of a bargirl" is pretty much over, so far as how she can earn, by the time she reaches 25. Seems pretty young yet, to me, but it's not my culture/rules...
