Dental work in Thailand
I was reading a post on dental work in Thailand
and never really paid attention to were I seen It.
Now I cant find it.
The reason I am asking for members help is today I came
back from the dentist and was looking at having some work done to improve my smile.
E.g some crowns or caps not sure of the proper terminology, purely cosmetic.
To the tune of about 5 grand..nearly choked.
I will call this clinic, Dowee,Dickem & Howe.
The post I was reading had prices that I could not believe
on the opposite end of the scale.
Has anyone had any work done and were they happy with it?
Any recommendations.
For that kind of money maybe I could take a trip and
have the work done and really enjoy myself smileling at those Thai angels.
Just a thought.
regards,
six

You could definitely take a trip, get the work done, and still have money left over. I went to a dentist in BKK, had work done, but nothing major. It was very cheap, about 20% of what I would have paid my local dentist. I wa very happy with the work and the service. The dentist was a cute young lady! So was her assistant!
The dental clinic was very nice. I don't remember the name of it. If I can find the receipt, I'll let you know. It was on the street that runs diagonally, mor or less, between Soi 11 and Sukhumvit, on the south side of the street and across the street from the restaurant I was eating in when I noticed it. The waiting room was full of farangs!

Thanks for the help
Thanks for all the help.
The phone # is great and the search function will be very handy
also in the future. I spent to much time reading to really get to know the site.
Now start planning for my maiden voyage to Thailand.
Air Canada to Thailand.
Those air miles will come in handy and I cant wait for my first
black death at the M.T.B.
I really cant wait for my first B.G. Helmet Scrub. Will be getting
more then my teeth polished in Thailand.

My advice would be to have any dental work you may want done in Thailand in Bangkok if possible. Nothing against Phuket dentists, but Bangkok is firstly cheaper (competition, not catering to tourists etc) and secondly they just have the better dentists up there.

I paid for the current girl to have her teeth done in Patong about 3 years ago.
1 front tooth capped, 1 extraction, 2 fillings and a full tooth bleach job ( ultra violet light etc. cost about £700.00 in UK.) Total cost 5500Bht. Cheap as chips, if you are sober enough for long enough get it done in LOS.

LOL I like that line. Do you remember where she had it done?
Did you make arrangements before you went down or
just go into the dentist when you got there?
Yes, it looks like a no brainer to me. I will
spend the next few weeks doing some planning.
Thanks for info.

Cant remember the exact details but we turned right at the Bangla/ Beach road turning and it was one or two back from the main street. We just turned up at the door and did not wait more than 40 mins for the appointment. It was quite a small surgery but all modern equipment and the dentist was a little cute Thai girl. Best of luck.

I am returning to PTY at the end of the month to get some more dental work done. I would recomend Pattaya Dental Center. I had Dr Nakorn do the work. It was a first rate dentest office and high quality work. I had a bridge put in $300 US. I only had 5 days there and 2 of those days were on the weekend. Since they had there own lab I was able to complete the whole thing in 3 days. Crowns are 4000 bht. Look up pattayadental.com

Beware cute dentists!
I had a very attractive young English dentist once and she went to town on my fillings. She would nestle my head in her ample bosoms and I was very happy indeed. Then all her work fell apart and I had to have them redone by an ugly bloke, but at least they have lasted.

A story about late evenings and toothache.....
On my last trip to LOS I got severe toothaache, got a suspicion that it was a previously untreated small decay (the only one I have) which started to make it precence known
Knowing the the cheap price and good work of the dentist in LOS,I should have gone to one of them straight away. But waking up late, abundance of booze and painkillers kept the pain away while I was there in april/may
Now I`m paying the price,my dentist back home is telling me I can either remove the tooth or have a root filling ......the root filling will alone will cost me between 50.000-65.000 Thai bahts
P.S : I`ve been twice to Patong Beach Dental Clinic,132/2 Ratuthit rd.They are doing an excellent job !!!

Has any ever had (or know anyone who has) major dental work in Thailand. My brother has neglected his teeth to decades and is now in a situation where his mouth required a complete overhaul. The easy solution is obviously dentures, however, he has just inherited nearly 1M dkr (6M baht) and wants to spend whatever it take on a new fixed smile. I can only imagine we are talking about a combination of a dozen crowns and equally many implants.
I would personally recommends that he move to Thailand for 6 months and spend the time in between treatments on visa runs or whatever he can get away with without opening his mouth.
Would this be a smart choice or it it a bit too extensive to go abroad for?
In Denmark (I believe) he has been quoted over 1.5M baht.

I do think the prices in Phuket is inflated. One dentist on sainam yen charged 600 baht 3 years ago for filling, today they charge 1200+ baht.
Look like they found out and know western prices and such raised their fees for farangs.
I paid 30,000 for root canal and crown in Patong, happy with their professional work, and up to date equipment, but i am sure you can get that lot cheaper elsewhere in Thailand.

That seems to be nearing US pricing. I do not know the cost of a root canal, but a crown is about $750 (27K baht), before insurance compensation. In my case the would be 50%.

That's a lot. Few months ago [b]I paid 1500 baht for a root canal (2 visits), 500baht for an extraction and another 1500 for a plate with 2 teeth on it in the Dental Clinic in Patong Hospital. I think if you just need regular work like that done the Hospital clinic is fine and mega cheap because it's where the Thais go but if you're wanting Cosmetic stuff done you'll need to go to the much more expensive private dentists.

I had toothache while on tour this trip and decided to have it looked at, went to romjai clinic, had emergency surgery to remove the nerve and cost me 1000 baht, made an appointment to have the root canal treatment done the week after, the cost was to be 21000, including crown IIRC.

I know someone who had a huge amount of cosmetic work done.. Basically all his teeth removed, screw into bone implants, and a whole new rebuilt porcelin mouth.. It was many months of surgery.
I am going from bar room chat memory but I think he said it would have been 80 - 100k USD back home and cost him less than 20 here..
Mav had a mouthful of new smilers put in..

Im just sitting here without one of my front teeth and gone get a new one on thursday.
Had to remove it because it was broken in the root and i had a inflammation
in that area. They told if i dident take it out and clean the area, it could
spread and i would loose the possibility to set in new ones, because it eats up the bone where the fastening for the tooths are.
So i had a surgery and operated in a implant (bolt)into the jawbone, this have now been there for one month.Next step is to make the new one in porcelin
and fit it to the others.
This cost me with consulting hours, operation, new teeth,al in al
Nok 26 000,- =estimated 145 000 Bath
Think i remember the dentist romjai clinic did mention 60 000 Bath for the same operation, but then you had to bee there for long time
