Rumors can be just as dangerous as the real thing.

Qoute:

The rumors began to spread in Bandar Lampung in the early hours of Tuesday, prompting panic among residents along the rim of the Bay of Lampung, the Antara news agency reported.

It was unclear how the rumor began, but the scare spread quickly as people alerted neighbors and contacted each other using mobile phones before doing whatever they could to get to higher ground for safety.

By about 2 a.m. Tuesday, almost all the mosques in Bandar Lampung were broadcasting tsunami warnings from their loudspeakers along with religious verses.

Many residents left their homes unlocked, leaving all of their belongings.

"It is true... all my family have fled, fearing a real tsunami," Antara quoted a resident in Kuripan village of Western Telukbetung town on the bay.

Despite radio reports and appeals by the police, later joined by Mosque calls, that there were no such dangers, most of the population opted to remain on higher ground until dawn.

That is extremely unlikely to cause any problems here in Thailand, these types of posts only serve to generate negative feedback and reactions towards this area which are totally unwarranted.
