what do you love about going home?

i know we all love LOS, and want to be there as much as possible, but what do you guys love about your home when you get back from tour?
-a little stupid thing i miss so much when im in LOS, this is when im there for a long time, is american tv. i know it sounds stupoid but i love all the useless stupid things on american tv, especially the junk reality shows
-absolutlely love that i can turn on the tv and watch me beloved red sox everynight
-when i go to boston, i stay with my sister , and i absolutely love to spend time with my nephews, her 2 sons. they really are like my sons, and they love when i stay here. i just dont get bored of them, i could spend all day just hanging out with them

I really love LOS, so its not an easy question to answer, and the comparison may not be fair. ... Let me try, back "home" in Germany:
- I love the cheap (and good) beer and wine
- I really like the hi-tech place where I work ( ... I know, I must be strange, loving my work ... )
- I love my apartment, and the hi-tech conveniences we have set up in the apartment. Beats the pants off of a Hotel room, and beats most of my friends places (when we stay as guests in Thailand),
- I love my beat up 21-year old unreliable sports car,
- I love the punctual buses and punctual trains and great public transportation system (necessary if one's car is unreliable),
- I love the relative proximity to various ski resorts,
- I love the relative proximity to other European countries,
- my wife loves the cooler climate (but not me, I prefer Thailand's climate),
- I love the relative peace and quiet when back home in Germany, alone with my Thai wife. In Thailand we are always too busy visiting our friends and her relatives.

But I still love Thailand, and I plan to retire there. If I could get the same job (same salary, same technical subject/challenge, same great co-workers) in Thailand that I have here in Europe, I would be on a flight to Thailand tomorrow.

I miss my bed...... and especially getting into it the first time after the sheets have been washed, that's got to be one of lifes top 10 favourites, like the smell of coffee brewing or the smell of freshly baked bread, the sound of leather against willow on a summers day followed by that little ripple of applause, but i'd trade the whole damn lot to have stayed for a few more days !!!!!!!

I miss aftera while the evenings sitting outside with the neighbours looking at people and cars passing by while sipping on an icecold stella or jupiler.

After my last trip, Honestly I could not wait to get home...
1) I loved seeing my family again.
2) It was great to get home and get a decent bit of grub into the system.
3) It felt so good having an ice cold bottle of bulmers cider
4) I really missed watching tv.
5) One of the most important things, I missed listening to the football and following what was going on back home.
6) I really missed my own bed
7) I just loved catching up on everything.

I would like to say all those feelings are slowly fading and now I could do with another trip to los

Sitting here drinking my hot cup of coffee, i realize that is probably the one thing i really missed while in LOS. A good cup of just plain regular coffee.

Some of the things people have said they miss, are here if you try.. Good coffee is possible (can get many flavours of unground beans and I would have mega problems if I couldnt get them.. ) and if you can pay through the **** wine is possible, but good affordable wine is a bit hard (but getting better)..

Most of the things I miss are food related.. Probably the biggest is a large selection of cheese (gone a bit Ben Gun) but those little delacacies like sun dried tomatoes in olive oil, multiple selection of olives in / garlic / pesto / etc, macadamias, european style mushrooms (fresh horse mushrooms, damn what I would pay for them !!!), many types of bread (unleavened arabic flatbreads), etc etc etc.. I could go on !!!

Record shops.. Here you can get chart top stuff but diverse eclectic music is hard to access.. Amazon is a pain but its about the only way I can keep my tune collection changing and music is very important to me..

Small light rear wheel drive cars on country roads.. I know its very irresponsible but driving like a lunatic and making a car dance like a balerina (and trying not to pirouette) on small country roads is one hell of a feeling.. Been a few years so I probably have lost some of my skills but I used to love that so much..

Clubbing.. Uk and some Euro Clubs.. Easy access to good DJ sounds and vibes...

However these things are blips on the horizon compared to the simple pleasure of living in this climate and localle.. I sit here and look out at a bright clear day with not a cloud in the sky and think of those cold wet days in N Europe and when it comes down to it, I wouldnt change it for all the tea in China..

You make some good points.

I remember when I moved from Thailand to Germany, after having lived in Thailand. I was in serious agony and withdrawal pains for 1-year, with the exception of the weeks when my Thai girlfriend (now my wife) flew out to join me.

My small "studio" style apartment on the waterfront in Phuket, had all the hitech conveniences that I wanted (given the technology available at the time). In my Phuket apartment I had air-conditioning (relatively rare in Germany), two phone lines (very rare in Phuket at the time), satellite TV, fax, computer, printer... Two phone lines meant I could be on the phone and on the internet at the same time. Great for market trading. I had a fabulous view of the water. ... A very large well equipped out door kitchen (that I never used). ... Parking (for my beat-up old truck) was only a few dozen feet away. And I had quiet neighbours. I was a few minute walk from some great local restaurants, and shops for buying food, odds and ends ..... I loved that place. Going from that nice and reasonably equipped place in Phuket Thailand, to a very basic hotel in Germany, was a major system shock, and was soooooooo painful. Thankfully I survived the transition, and eventually got myself established here.

Of course, had I stayed in Thailand, I would possibly be dead now, as I typically slept in, and the Tsunami may have carried me away.

I guess one has to count their blessings, and marvel sometimes how life works out.

1. My kids
2. My home cooking
3. Sleeping in my own bed(Hotel beds great for sex, no good for sleep)
4. My guitars
5. My gym(Patong gym sucks!)
6. My Jeep Grand Cherokee V8 SUV
7. The incomparable beauty that surrounds me(nowhere more beautiful than California).
8. Walking beneath the Redwood trees and Douglas fir trees.
9. California wine. It's God's mercy in a bottle. A Cab from Napa Valley for 15 or 20 dollars. A Merlot from Sonoma for $10 to $15. So fine. So cheap.
10. American movies at my local theater a couple times a week. Very convenient.
10. Talking English with people who can really speak it and talk like me.
11. Making money. The excitement of the deal!
12. Kamut bread.
13. Provolone cheese.
14. Special teas. Especially my own blends that I mix myself from special ingredients. I make one from South American and Chinese herbs that sometimes almost makes me feel like I am high on cocaine.
15. American sports, especially footbal, basketball, and baseball.
16. American music. It's more up to date here, more diverse.

I don't miss: American TV(especially Fox news network), coffee(latte at Coffee Lovers on Rat-U-Thit is fine with me), Mexican food(it's great, but I've had enough to last a lifetime),farang women, working, beer, or my apartment(I like living in a hotel room with a maid to clean up).

I just love the fantastic weather we get here in the west coast of scotland its just so varied every day when you wake up its so exiting to see if we have rain with heavy wind or without christ even some days we are truly blessed and we get a snow blizzard i short i miss fu-k all about Scotland except my family but i am a realist after 28 days of drinking 16 hours a day you need to get home to recover especially as i dont touch booze at home owing to being diabetic
