Totally agree with you, I always eat the food from the country I´m visting, it´s a big part of the culture and all countries have food that everyone can like. For instance when I visited scottland I tasted haggish and liked it, however as u pointed out the thai-food maybe the best in the world. Only morons eat only european food when they are in LOS.

Anubis how can you say that people who eat european food in LOS are morons...bit harsh to say the least
It is up to the individual what they want to eat, I live in Isaan and yes do eat lots of thai food but sometimes like a change and will make up a pasta or treat myself to a big juicy T-bone.
My youngest daughter who is seven does not like a lot of chilli on her meals and loves pasta..go figure?
It is called freedom of choice so no need to call people morons because of what they like to eat....UP TO THEM !!!

By the way this is not just in thai, I am a really fussy eater at home and have the exact same problem with every holiday i go on, And its not only food, I have the same problem with drink, As I drink a particular cider and thats it (Bulmers), Cannot stomach any other drink really unless I am pissed already, Funny enough I can eat most types of food when I am pissed aswell

Maybe thats the solution Stay pissed
those teqilla's go down well, though

Honestly I even think the farang food is bad in the majority of the places in Los, As has been metioned before the Islander in patong does really good farang food, Fish&chips, Bangers&Mash, Shephards Pie and the Steak and Chips is better than average. In pattaya I found the Sportsmans bar on soi13 to do nice and also shenaghans had some really nice farang grub.

Other than that though I could not find anywhere nice to eat in BKk but in fairness I didnt really have enough time there to find somewhere really nice, And it was also the same in Samui.

Also I find the steak is not as nice in the majority of places I have ate in, Even buffalo steak house which was recomended to me, Was not really up to scratch IMHO...

Dont get me wrong though, I like some thai food like the green and red currys, And a few of the mixed rice dishes, Also some or the soups were gorgeous I had in Los.

Another reason why thai food does not really appeal to me as much is because I am not really a big seafood man, I lke a bit of fresh cod in batter and king prawns but that about as far as it goes.

1st, what are bangers? i always see you guys talk about them

shenanigan's in pattaya has a great grill buffet, all kinds of nice meats
in bkk- i had a fantastic rib-eyes steak at the westin on sukhumvit
and gson took me to a place in kata, two chef's, swedish guys, had great steaks

Yes and the Irish stew is nice aswell in shenanigan's, Obviously not nearly as good as home but better than average, Fish and Chips in there are really nice.

Also they do a lovely pint of guinness, Nearly as good as home and thats hard to find, Unfortunatly its in pattaya

must take a note of this for my next trip.
the only thing i saw you eat when i was in patong was beer, beer, beer and burgers from down the side of thai-pan, then more beer and for desert pussy, just what you need to survive in a los, nice one mate, 5555555

Gee, Paul!!! Even I knew that one!!

I love Thai food and would eat nothing else when in LOS, except for the fact that it does not "stick to your ribs" and I lose weight as if I had anorexia nervosa if I only eat the Thai food! I'm thin to start with, and lost 15 lbs. on my last trip, and finally had to start eating steaks, pork chops, and lots of potatoes every day to keep from vanishing!

They make a good pork chop dinner with mushroom gravy and potatoes at the first restaurant you come to if you walk out the door at Tai Pan onto Rat-U-Thit, turn right, and go past the currency exchange not too far. It is the place with open air seating in front and is part of a hotel. I think it is is called Phuket Villa, but I'm not sure. It is across the street from Dang's restaurant, more or less.

The best steaks I had was when I was in Koh Samui. All the good restaurants there had great filet mignon, beefsteak, and pepper steak. Prices were way lower than Patong. The only place that I had a really good filet in Patong was at a Swedish restaurant at the Swedish hotel on the left at the end of San Sabai. I don't remember the name, but IIRC, it was the last building on that side of the street. Very good filet, 300 or 350 Baht, I think. Hard to remember the details. That was almost double what I was paying in Lamai, and I think the portions were bigger in Lamai!

JayBee

P.S. The BBQ pork ribs were pretty good at the restaurant at Ex-Pat Hotel, too, and quite reasonably priced. Unfortunately, the potatoes there suck, IMHO.
