F**k me sideways, I may as well book my 3-week long holiday in Phuket for 2012. The last place I want to be in then is definitely London

I apologise to any french BM's but I'm as happy as larry, I was told that in front of the french was about 40 photographers and only about 4 in front of the british party when the decision was made and the french just could not hide their disgust and amazement, after what Chirac said about us and the Fins I am so pleased. It can only be good news for Britain and to get the double whammy, one up against the frogs, brilliant!!

Thumbs down

To be honest, I didn't give a toss who won the bid.
Until I heard the comments from Monsieur Chirac yesterday.
Now I'm glad that Paris didn't win.
One up the ar-e for the arrogant pri-k. ooh la la
I do feel sorry for the French though.

I did exactly the same thing when Sydney won the Olympics. There was no way I wanted to be around in Sydney when that circus on.

Sorry but I don't agree, in this case it is unfair to put the blame on the French. I am working in a Belgian port and we have also a lot of problems with the asylum seekers (vessels leaving my port landed 58 death illegal Chinese immigrants in Ireland, and a few others in the UK). Big part of the problem is the UK. Not the French in Sangatte, that center was closed on demand of the British gouvernment (and I know for certain because the treaty between the Ministers of Interior Affairs of the UK (Pluncket), France (Sarkozy) and Belgium was signed on the floor below my office, I met the ministers before and after the signing.
I think it was even the UK gouvernment who wanted asylum camps in North Africa, so that those people were not so close to their border as in Sangatte.
The asylum seekers are poor chaps wanting a better life, most are economic refugees, not political refugees. Normally they should have been stopped at the borders of the the Schengen countries (Greece, Italy, Spain, Austria etc...). Problem is there is a big money involved with smugling those guys, as much as with smugling drugs, and the penalties are as not as high. There are even files run by Chinese triads from China to UK.
And all asylum seekers want to go to the UK, because when they arrive there they weren't sent back, they don't need an ID-card so they could simply disappear and there is a large community of their countrymen. Besides, till a few years ago they even received a starting premium from the UK gouvernment.
The UK gouvernment does nothing to discourage them but puts all the responsability and the pressure on the surrounding countries. All trucks and trailors in my port are controlled at the expense of a lot of money, because if an illegal arrives in the UK the transporter (mostly Brittish companies) is fined if it looks he has not done anything possible.
By the way, those guys in Sangatte tried to jump on rolling TGV's, walk through the tunnel to Folkestone and some even tried to swim or row with rubberboats across the channel. I expect even some of them drowned in my port trying to get on board a vessel. I know of one guy who fell in the water and was never found. The real b...ds are the smugglers.
Well, this has nothing to do with the Olympics. Congratulations with the 2012 games. Hope you don't have to pay the bill afterwards.

paying the bill

i was told that each each Londoner or uk resident would have to pay an extra £4 a month tax to pay for this for the
next 25 years , don't no how true it is but I can guess its got to be paid for buy some mug
why not make it £5 a month and let Tony Blair going skiing with his family
the joke is We will probably make a f..k up with the tickets and everything that goes with the Olympics anyway
most Londoners will be at work and wont see a thing as we work the most hours in Europe
for the least money , cheers

The only thing better than having a flat in East London is...

.. having two flats in East London (Stratford)....early retirement beckons that little bit earlier

Will they be able to deliver a stadium and infrastructure in time?

setup bgs in london

well with london getting the olympics great news for that city.

rent out your house, or setup 6 or 8 bgs on a tourist visa and reap the rewards.

Bgs should have no trouble getting to the uk whilst the olympics are on.

have the bgs on a working "holiday" and you poms can nick of to los for the duration.

i hope you dont have an aussie company build the infrastructure re Wembly stadium.

I heard that they are going to rebuild Wembley Stadium. And that the beach volleyball in going to be held in a field near 10 Downing Street. Nice beach, I'm sure!

BTW Congratulations! To all the Londoners and UK blokes on this victory over France, America, and Spain! It is a feather in the cap of every Brit IMHO. You don't have to be there in 2012, if you don't want to be. Merely rent out your flat at an outrageous price to some Olympics tourist, take the $ and live it up with the girls in LOS!!!

So, The Sun, British tabloid, has charectised Jacques Chirac as the ''crazy frog", and have a clip of him reacting to the news of the announcement.
