Thai girl: a great book!
I do not know if this been mentioned here allready. Could not find it with the "search" bottom"
I just finished this book yesterday. I think that it is a "must read" for everybody!
Not that the story is so strong, but it gives a very good insight of the real Thai mentality and way of thinking!
Many of you here will find some situations will be very recognisable. This is NOT a story about the barscene, although one could think so reading the first chapters. It is does explain some issues of the sextourism in Thailand without judging too much.
Although, with the years, I found out many of these things myself, still there were some things that became very clear to me!
The title of the book is not for nothing "Thai girl" and not bg! Indeed , that is why I would sugest its reading especially to "newbies", going out to have some fun with Thai women!
Its put really clear, that Thai women are not "easy". So the guy who think it will be obvious to go home or marry a girl who never worked in a bar, should certainly go through these pages!
You remember about the "Thai girl", who let me down? Well after reading these I totally forgive her! I also new that the Thais are not so tolerant as we all think. But it even get beyond my espectations! A Thai girl seen with a farang, going out with him, MUST be a hooke*! They are frawned upon, much more then we think...
Without saying that this book is the "holy bible" of Thailand, I had a great read and hardly could bring myself to put it down once and a while...

Even Thai girls cry is another pretty good relationship saga even though it does have pattaya as a location and bars are incedental its not a prositution story...

I read Even Thai Girls Cry too. Brought a tear to my eyes too. I saw Thai Girl at the book store but didn't pick it up. Maybe I should. Have anyone here read My Name Lon, You Like Me by Derek Sharron? Reviews please?

The cover of the book do not do it justice.....
Has been discussed on the website of the author! It looks like it is about sexual experience, when it is absolutely not!

Well I wont give the end away but many of you know what happened to my soulmate out here.. so the last chapter of that book and what the guy went through was really painful simply as it was very close to my own experiences..

Mixture of her life - started 'working' at 13 and comments/observations on life/sex work/prostitution in Thailand all written in short paragraphs and mixed together - not the easiest of reads but worthwhile.
Had me in tears on my flight back from BKK.
I'm happy to pass on my copy to someone else in the UK (on condition that they then pass it on again).

Take a look at "Only 13."
Only 13 is the hardest hitting book I have read on Thailand. It is not some foreigner's complaint about the bar girls, but instead, it is the bargirl's complaint about Thailand, her culture and the foreigners who she had been seeing since she ran away from home.
While reading the book, you will be pulled into actually being her, and seeing things in her way. Besides the storyline, there are a lot of great pictures of her and her sisters which bring the book to life. During her tenure in the business, she met some really sick men, and that is probably why she is on lots of medication now while living in England.
The young lady is opinionated to say the least, but her opinions are from someone who has lived the life of a poster child. The book mentions the website as well which has color photos. www.only13.net NO matter how much you know about Thailand, there will be something new for you here.

Interesting to see a quote from this website to say how good it was! I don't remeber reading anything about it before!
Who said "Had me in tears on my flight back from BKK"?

I bought Thai girl at Phuket airport and about two thirds the way through it.
Another book I bought was 'Welcome to Hell'. A true story about Colin Martin an Irishman who sent to the Bangkok Hilton after being swindled out of a fortune and was drawn into a fight killing someones bodyguard. Excellent book

I have read also Thai girls don't cry....
The story is good, but it is really not great writing. Understand what you mean LIL!
Thai girl is a total different story. Made me think about my first experiences with a real Thai girl and it is a good read, if you want to know more about the Thai way of thinking. Keep in mind that the title is TG and no BG!!!! So it is not a story about the bar-scene, but again the aproach of a real TG.

I haven't read a book since being forced to, back in my school days.
After reading a thread on here a while ago & a link to stickman site, I purchased a book online from monsoon books Singapore.
The book is named Confessions of a Bangkok Private Eye, by Warren Olson.
I got it in the hope that it should help time pass, on my flight over in 2 wks.
Will give some kinda report hopefully after the read.
ps, I have been taking into account books that are recommended by bm's on here too.....
If I get the reading bug, I will follow up on them.

Hi to the Forum -
has been a few years since I was active here -
As is probably well recorded, after almost 15 years in the land of smiles, I finally found someone who I felt deserved having their needs/lifestyle put ahead of my own ; so for my then 2, now 4yr old daughters sake, repatriated to New Zealand.
Much of my thoughts / work / and general background knowledge of Thais, and especially the nightlife scene, has been captured in the recently released book ' Confessions of a Bangkok Private eye'
I appreciate the positive feedback on this thread, and thank those concerned for that. As they say, it is indeed meant to be a type of 'guide' to the pitfalls of relationships with a Thai - and may have been a little boring, however Stephen Leather took over much of the writing side for me, and certainly made it entertaining, and I hope, also enlightening. The AFTERWORD I added, is very heartfelt, and sums up my true thoughts of the Kingdom and its people.
Not trying any 'hard sell' here, but again, thanks to those for the positive feedback, and for accepting the book for what I hoped it would be.
choke dee,
Warren [ original 'thaiprivateeye']

Well, hard sell or not. If Stephen Leather made it more entertaining, I will give it a read.

Hey Warren! Read this book last week and I give it the thumbs up eventhough it has a few typos and you seem to repeate your motto often. Not to give too much away but one story I liked was the on about a farang guy who falls for a katoey and I also thought that the story about the farang ripping of the Thai Lady was a good read.
Cheers

Thanx Oasis -
Unfortunately with me sending case details to Stephen Leather to sort of fine tune when he had time, it did get a little fragmented - and yes, I note Steve repeated what are some of his "motto's' regularly -
I only have two, and they are both on the cover !
Thai Girl = Cunning as a fox with a mind like a goldfish, +
If you have a Thai Girl girlfriend you never lose her, - you just sometimes lose your place in the queue !
