Beach life in Phuket in the evening...
I am not very found of Koh Samui....
But I enjoyed very much the beach life there in the evening!
At chaweng, vey much happening ON the beach. Nice restaurants with, torches all around on the beach, a guy with a guitar etc. Also on other beaches, nice places on the beach to spend a wonderful time in the evening!
Now I was thinking about it:
I never spend time in the evening on a beach in Phuket! In Patong it is unsafe and I do not see where to go to, to have a nice drink or meal with "ambiance" around the island!
In Koh Samet, and other islands, there is a nice "beach-athmosphere" at night too!
Somebody some thoughts/sugestions?

I agree tintin,
Samui does have that beach appeal that unfortunatly phuket dosn't, especially in the evenings, this in my oppinion is phukets only letdown...
Samui is great fun and a nice place to chill, but it is a little quiet during the day, all in all, i really liked samui, but i prefer patong as is has a bit more life ..

Now very strange. In the day I hang around "reggae bar" in Kata, where there is a nice restaurant. I never bother to have a look there in the evening, but a "beach-party" was annonced a few days after I left.
Maybe there is a bit of beach-athmosphere there in te evening...

Giers bar is right at the southern end of beach Rd as it intersects the Rd back to Rat U Thit.. The bar is called the Darkside and is a great spot especially for late afternoon beer / sundowner.. The area of bars there is known as Soi Sunset but even many tuk tuks dont know it by that name..
Beach Rd is not exactly unsafe at night but it has become a bit of a hang out for LB's and the 'darkness' along beach Rd can lead to less safety than the highly populated nar areas after dark..
Its not like you should be paranoid about it but its perhaps not the best place to be alone, drunk, etc..

Oooh no wonder they called it the Darkside. Yeah you're right. Doesn't sound like a place me and my gf wants to venture to. Think we will just spend our beer fund at the bars on the main street.

I hope I didnt make it sound a bad area.. Soi Sunset is a nice little spot and its quiet and away from the girl hustle so makes a 'break' from Bangla..
Beach Rd is not dangerous (compared to any cities I have lived in) just keep your eyes open and dont go down into the dark (where the bad Ladyboys are so I am told )..
I will put it on my tour list !!!

I like eating at Rawai beach in the night. You can just sit on the beach on a big straw mat, with a table in between and order your fresh grilled fish with seafood lettuce and salad

Wow whats so bad or dangerous about patong beach, I have been there many times late at might, I stayed at amari coral beach and used to quite often walk along the beach before getting a tuk tuk, never once felt threatened or saw anything to make me worry. Assuming I was lucky and to ensure I do not make the same mistake again what is likely to happen on the beach that I cannot handle?? Genuine question.

Patong beach
Patong beach has great atmosphere after dark. I used to sit on the sun beds after dark with a few beers and snacks and see what kind of weird shit would happen. You will be approached by the most unlikely FL's imaginable. Just relax and don't accept their offer and they will hang out with you and tell you stuff you would never hear otherwise. You'll get an education in the bizarre.
Good things... I once bought a very nice 6some on the beach. Yes, I said 6some (I felt like James Bond). Price for LT? 4000 plus a few beers. Priceless... Plus, it got me quite a reputation at Harry's hotel where the staff giggled at me every time they saw me after
Bad things... On my second to last night of my holiday last year I got Mickey Finned there. NEVER accept a drink from a girl/lb on the beach (especially an already open beer).
For me, all worth it on balance.
Rastafarian style bar in Kata beach? Fantastic and not dangerous at all - recommended.

There are many other beaches beside Patong that are safe and there is dining available. Go to Bang Tao beach many restaurants including a fomous one called Lotus. Leam Singh is good dining during the day.
Surin Beach also has some restaurants and it's a safe enviorment with not too many people.

Yes Robert I know....
But these are in a more luxurious envirement, and not the beer and relax-style!
also far away from Kata where I stay.
I think that i will try to see the end of Kata next time. Maybe the reggae -pub there is some fun in the evening...
But thanks for the name of the restaurants, I will maybe have a go, after...
I try silk!

Upside kata noi in the hills there are two nice reggaebars near the well known view point just at the street. (think you can`t miss them if you follow the street to view point).
Very nice place to have a beer at sunset. Food is also available.
You can look in the ocean while you drink your beer.
Nice place! (IMO)

Heard about the place, could never find it!

Kat, i do not know if you are aware but the dark side is referred to as A BM going with a LB. My apologies if I am stating the obvious to you.

here`s a map its the road to "View point, Nai Harn, Phrom Thep, Rawai".
(4 - F)
If you follow this road you will see on the right side two bars/restaurants. Don`t remember the names, but there were no others last year.
BTW this is the way to Nui beach same.
Maybe we have a beer together the | |
