I would have thought there would be several hundred million in circulation.

(5 officially, but many commemorative 10THB coins also?)

According to the TV programme, 8 coins:

10 Baht
5 Baht
1 Baht
50 Satang
25 Satang
10 Satang
5 Satang
1 Satang

The last 3 is barely used, but is mainly used at banks for exact transactions/payouts. E.g. if you end your account you will get exact amount down to 1 satang.

I would not be at all surprised if the metal value of the satang coin was higher than the cash value.. this has hapopened a few times in history with more valuable coins with higher silver content and smart metal dealers would simply collect massive amounts of them and make profit scrapping it ?!?!?

I tried to use 4* 25 satangs to make 1 Baht the other day at a shop within Tesco Lotus. Just wanted to get rid of the damn things but the cashier wouldn't accept them.

Surely they are legal tender?

Yes, but a lot of the smaller traders won't accept them - too much trouble.

BTW: what the hell were you buying for 1 baht?
