its plenty cheap enough. beer in a beer bar is 80baht(2usd) and 120baht(3usd) if you buy a girl a drink. food is cheap enough. depends if you want farang or thai food, but its cheap enough that you shouldnt worry. as for clothes, i dont really buy too much of the stuff, but they have all the good knockoff stuff, jeans, t-shirts, shorts for very cheap. like i said, cant give you exact prices, but you shouldnt worrry.
when are you going?

Out of their minds (I never paid more than 40 or 60 Baht in my home country and there I was earning about 10 times as much). 80/90 Baht for a Heineken (who wants to drink that shit???), clothes are cheap, but only wash them one time, after that they are gone. Quality = zero.

There is only one thing cheap in Phuket. Food. If you dare to walk into a Thai street joint. You will probably don't dare that and you will go to Mario's Pizzeria (or whatever) and you will pay 350 Baht for a Spaghetti Napolitana which is so horrible and doesn't taste like Napolitana at all, but .. it's red and that 's mostly enough for the visitors.

But for the purpose you are coming, get drunk every night, f[aeiou]ck a girl every night, hear every day 20 times that you are very handsum and leave about about 5000 usd in 3 weeks, Phuket could be your place.

And you will love it too.

And then you will return home, you will read this forum everyday and you will change your name into "IreallyloveThailand" and waterdrops are falling out of your mouth.. .. only 9 months to go and than you can go back and .... all the ugly bargirls again.

But as long as you keep your money in your pocket: "no ploplem!"

Don't worry ;-) I think there should be a contrast against those "I don't (want to) know nothing, I'm bald and ugly, I can f[aeiou]ck every girl, I love this country. It's cheap!" guys, which we have enough at this forum. Move your ass over here and after 2-3 years we'll talk again, isn't it? Like I spoke 2 months ago to a manager of a upper-class resort in Patong, who has been manager in Patong for 10 years. I asked him: "$NAME, do you think Patong has changed in those 10 years?"

"Oh yes, Patong turned into a dump"

Like in the early days all the "joe 6 packs" went to Loret de Mar (Spain), now they are going to Patong. 5-7 months ago there was a survey about the 100 most famous travel destinations around the world, Loret de Mar was no. 99, Phuket no. 98.

Just stay outside the touristic areas and you will be perfectly fine. I am the living prove.. ;-)

I'm bald and ugly, love thai girls, get drunk, find it cheap and love the dump, and most of all I'm looking forward to having another great time never being bored or negative in Patong!!!

Can't wait - 6 days to go

I dont know what western country sells you beer in a bar for 40 baht (1 USD or 0.60 GBP etc).. Certainly none I know..

You are right that Phuket is not that cheap especially compared to many other parts of Thailand but it does have the facilities to cater to a tourist audience that most places dont..

Clothes and buying them when you get here.. If your large (not just round) then getting clothes is really tough.. Shoes often come no larger than 8 or 9 UK size.. etc.. Up in BKK you can fill a suitcase cheaply and with clothing that does not fall apart instantly but it would take up some of your vacation time to work to find it.. Why bother.. Also young Thais (even ones with some money) often like to buy junky clothing so that its wear a few times 99 baht T shirt and then on to the next fashiony item.. Leads to a very low quality of material and stitching.. If all you want is some T's and shorts ok perhaps but its not a shopping mecca for quality clothes..

Food can range from street food at 20 - 30 baht per dish to high end resturants where dropping 4k or so (with a bit of wine) is not hard to achieve.. I dont really know what Burgs big deal is as there are good food places of all types (great pizza on Nanai run by some Italian brothers.. Home made pasta daily there too..) steaks, assorted farang grub for if the craving hits you... Sure down on Bangla food quality may be lowest common denominator but I bet the best resturants back home are not right in the nightlife..

Anyway in short (too late) beer is cheap.. food is cheap.. Clothes are cheap but look it..

Please show me one tourist area anywhere in the world where prices arent higher than other places in that same country. You can't. Its a fact of economic life.

I bought a great deal of tailor made clothes and I still have all pieces, they (my shirts) are still in great condition and look still silky. I bought some shorts (Diesel copies) and those are also in great condition after many washing rounds adn this was 2,5 years ago... I bought a rolex watch copy (silly me coz I didn't bargain but still cheap 1500 Baht) and still going, works like a charm... I ate at certain steak houses (I agree a bit expensive) but i had the greatest steak I have ever tasted in my life... When it comes to the ladies I was treated like royalty, they were extremly nice eventhough I was there with my girlfriend at the time. I wasn't told alot of times that I'm a hunsom man but there was one lady that came from an other bar and when she passed by me she grabbed my ass and wispered "you're very handsome" and went back to her bar... It was discrete and it felt as a nice compliment All I can say that the place is very nice, the people is great and the only thing I'm not used to is to bargain about the price of things but still everything is way cheaper than here in Sweden... I had a great time 2,5 years ago and I'm sure I'll have a great time in November and I also intent to do some serious shopping... Cheers guys!

IIRC, Mixed drinks are usually 150 Baht, but some are more. I think a Margarita was 180 most places, but it does vary some. Shots of tequila are usually 100, but when they have Tequila night at Baya Beach, they have girls wearing sombreros, carrying quarts of tequila, with bandeleros strapped across their chests full of shot glasses instead of ammunition. Then it is only 50 Baht per shot. That's a lot of fun. I only drink tequila and at the discos, they charge the same(100 Baht) for tequila nam som(tequila with Orange Juice) or tequil sapparot(tequila with pineapple juice), same price as just shots, so the juice is free! I think they charged the same as for a cocktail at the ladybars, though.
