If you saw the guys lying dead before my wheels, not wearing an helmet, you would quickly adjust your attitude!

It is even more stupid then not wearing a condom, while having se*

Driving is terible risky in Phuket!!!

As for these controls, it is only to get monney out of us, not for safety!

Till now I managed, because my driver-license sais it in many languages! It is not an international!

But I am sure that one day they will fine me too not having the "phuket" International!

I don't see the problem here. If, like in all other countries, everybody in Phuket is wearing a helmet and has his lisence, the MIB would stop checking out because there's no money to be make. In all our countries we all get tickets when no lisence or helmet. Same same in Thailand.........

Yes Jossie, but a driver-license is not always enough.

They ask an international drivers-license, issued in phuket. Most don't have those! So many tickets every night!

They required international drivers licenses before but this year national ones seems to be OK and accepted.

However, it is easy to get an international driver license from your home country, usually from motor organizations and such. In Sweden you can obtain a 1 year or a 3 year license for maybe 1000 baht.

Been stopped many times with normal lisence. Never (up till now at least) had any problem. If it takes an International and it's known, then everybody should go and get it...

Ps, i don't go take it so one day i will be

I got stopped in my jeep in Kathu recently...

First it was licence..
Then it was insurance (mine wasnt stuck to the window as it was recently purchased)
Then he claimed my light was out (it wasnt)..

By which time I was out of the car as he went round looking for things to fine me on.. After a full few minutes he looks at me standing next to him in the road and like a lightbulb goin on in his head "You not wear seatbelt" er no I am standing here outside of the damn jeep now..

Quite simple 'farang only' fine..

Some days your the dog.. Some days your the lamp post..

I have just been stopped once last Feb, in Phuket Town. I was in my rented jeep with my TGF, so maybe it helped a little bit... and not drunk

They just wanted to see my international driving license, have a short look inside the car, then they let me go. My TGF said it was probably because they couldn't speak a good English, so it was easier for them. I have also been very polite with one or two Thai words, so no problem.

I think the Thai government also plans to decrase the number of accidents and victims (difficult to blame them), and asked the police to increase the number of controls.
The best thing to do is to avoid to drive drunk (I am not a saint ) but I prefered to rent a room or call a tuk-tuk if I was mao mak mak... The last thing I would want is to have an accident in LOS, the farang will never win and the car insurance only covers low damages.

It was my slaziest thought of the year

Maybe a big control action organized by the authorites, so no one could go through the net ... But six times in 12 hours, I must admit it's a lot... even in our countries

Marc26, avoid riding in circles through the check points may help

I have at most just been stopped 2 times during one day.

The motorbike check points seem to becoming more frequent and in different places. Drive a car, I've never been stopped.

Just joking, Marc

Have actually used this many many times.. if for some reason my wallet is not on my hip I have ridden up and put my hand in my pocket while saying.. I just came through the other side (roadblocks are usually both ways) and have been given the wave on more times than not...

Also if they see you willingly immediatly pull to them and grab your wallet they tend to assume that you know what they want and push to look at it a lot less..

Not only did I get stopped in the hire car on the last trip I had to pay a fine of 500 baht right then and there as the hire car company hadnt payed the tax which is only 800 baht for the year. The car was a brand new altis by the way not some piece of shit and as marc26 has found while on the bike I was also pulled over around 10 times or so and had to show my licence. I had both and as soon as I would show then the international licence they would just walk away and not even bother I dont think they get as many international licences. I dont mind that they are checking if it is for the right reason but as you know mostly it is just revenue and you can almost work your clock by some of these check points just before lunch and just before dinner, someones got to pay for it.

I was stopped at least three times a day for a week last month 300bht the first time. Carried my Canadian D/L after that and never got another fine. Probably could have shown them a library card and gotten away
