anyone have any suggestions about a good place to drive to thats within 2-3 hours drive from phuket. either looking for just a day trip or stay over one night. ill be with the girl so dont care too much about entertainment but some would be nice. id appreciate your suggestions

Krabi.. Railey (spelling) beach is a nice spot in that time range.. Drive up through Phang Gna.. Limestone rock formations.. Coastal roads.. Stop around Phang Gna on the way at waterfalls and natural rock pools for something to eat.. Get to Krabi.. Relax overnight and take a long tail off to other secluded beaches (very nice).. return late afternoon..

I have never found a good place to stay over night around Phang Gna.. there has to be some I just havnt found them... Krabi has some quiet nightlife and some bars for an evening drink..

The Khao Lak coastline looks too wrecked to be pleasant yet.. shame as Kha Lak used to be a nice one night away also..

On the recent Buddha day I used the jeep for the first time in ages to go around the north of the Island and up to sarasan bridge where a beach resturant is great for sunsets.. Actually was thinking about taking my LT'er on a Krabi run over night...

Also if you would put a little bit more driving time in you could check out Kho Lanta and do a 2 nighter...

Ohh yeah and for action I read about a white water rafting tour in Phang Gna somewhere.. Go up.. elephant trek and whitewater raft.. Bit action'y but gotta be a laugh..

I would like to do the rafting thing.. Perhaps a BM day out ???

Cant find a page dedicated to the raftng but this is the 'tour' wouldnt want to get caught up in going to 'rubber plantations' and other tour type shite tho... Can find thier direct contact as GF used to work as a tour agent and would know who to call..

You have me thinking about doing something a bit different also now... Hmmm.. Fireblade round to Lanta for 2 nights ?? Jeep for white water / elephant.. One night jungle stay.. one night Krabi...

Really is loads to do if you get your head out of the bottle occasionally..

A good place to drive to from Phuket IMHO is back to Phuket.

Have a fantastic and wonderful time on your travels but it is always nice to come back.

On the way to Krabi on a side road, there is the most amazing temple. I know what you guys are saying, seen one temple seen them all, but this one is different. See my pics of it

I'll have to find the road atlas at home to give directions. But it is definitely worth a visit.
