Finding a Hotel In Patong During Peak Season

Has anyone gone to Patong during peak season ( december/january) without pre booking a hotel, just turn up and then look for a hotel because i will be in Patong from december 18-24 and i am not sure if its easy to get a room just turning up to the hotel and booking there.

The prices of most hotels online during that period are very expensive so i thought i might get a better price just turning up at the hotel in person.

Why not try and make a report of it?

If me, I would book in advance. Many hotels are fully booked during peak season, and, I doubt you will get any discount on the room rate. But I am sure you can find room somewhere thought, maybe not the hotel or location you had in mind.

I'll be in LOS for 6 weeks starting 29th dec. I have no firm plans, but intend to book somewhere in Patong for the first week over the internet, as I don't want to end up somewhere I don't really want. During that first week I will look around and make enquiries regarding ''walk in'' prices and try and haggle if need be.

The difficulty at the moment is knowing if the peak season next year will really be a peak season like they used to be pre-tsunami. How will this affect the hotels/guest houses pricing policy and availability?

I read an article saying that the occupancy rate in the hotel increased to 15% last month, which is normal for the season... Let's hope that the high season will be back to normal as well.

you say peak season but i don't think it will be as busy in patong this year as it has been before, so if i were you i would just turn up and sort it out at the airport. i was there last year in peak season i left patong on december 23rd though lucky for me!! but i got a room in aloh villa right next to Bangla and thi-pan disco, it was very busy in patong and it was still only 1000 baht i think!

I showed up the first week of december last year and walked in to C&N, paid 1000/night for 3 weeks. I went to pattaya around Christmas/New Year, and getting a decent room was more of a challenge. I think going around the 29th of Dec, you're probably safest with a reservation through the first week of Jan, then you can look around and get a bargain.

I have yet to make up my mind. I really wanted to stay in this hotel next the beach in Patong, I forget the name of the hotel. Its on the south side heading towards Katan Beach, it looks really nice from the outside. But I think I may reserve with either Tony Resort or Patong Villa and then go out and find some hotels later in the week. I know the prices are jacked up a lot during the peak season, as I have been researching on the net.

For e.g. : Low Season - 1,200 baht
Peak Season - 3000 baht?!!?!

Come on!

Made an enquiry through sawadee.com for the Patong Villa dec - jan

The return came back and said bookings are tight for that time of year.

So i went ahead and booked staight away at B2,400 a night

One night deposit paid to secure booking and balance paid in November.

Hmm.. so they have the price for it already? I emailed them back in June/July they said they have not set a price yet.

Whatever you do don't get the taxi driver to help you find a room
