You will see plenty of places for visa extension around. I left the country and went to Laos so this enabled me another 30 days this year. Do you intend on staying in Phuket?. I think its 200 baht for everyday you overstay also

Hi Rudi,
Go here and all will be revealed...
www.thaivisa.com
Be careful with the overstay. If you do then go fess up and pay, if you get stopped for any reason by the cops and they see you are ON overstay, you will get first hand experience of Thai incarceration hospitality.

If your going to be staying longer than the 30 days, just go to the immigration office in Patong or Phuket Town *BEFORE* your 30 days are up, and you can extend for 7 or 15 days, I cant remember exactly.
A visa run, well depends on how much you want to spend, sit on a bloody bus or a plane. Lots of buses to Ranong for a day trip, or fly to Singapore for the day.

You can extend for 14days on a 30day visa and 30days on a 60day visa.

I'm going for 43 days and intended to apply for a 60 day visa.
Is there ever a problem in obtaining a 60 day visa? Would I be better off applying for a 30 day visa and then extending it whilst I was there?

I dont think you will have any problems obtaining one but maybe the 60day visa might be a little more expensive, But on the other hand you will have it before you arrive, So then you dont have to mess about when you get there, And that means more time for you and the LBFMs

I wonder what the fcuk I was looking at then?
I know you (Faulty) go there a lot when you are not putting people to sleep, so what would your advice be to me regarding the visa requirements for a 42 day stay?

The Welsh are an ethnic minority and qualify.
Gez, if you have time you could apply for 60 day, I think it costs about £25, but, as you are only planning 42 days just get normal 30 day at immigration and then get 14 day extension at Patong ( costs about 1900 Baht). If, by some chance, you then decide to stay longer you would need to do a visa run. Do not let your visa expire, or overstay as the "minimum" you would get fined and could be screwed around at airport when leaving.
Other may have diffferent veiws, but this is what I've done on many occasions. Hope this helps

Diz and Faulty - Thanks
I do know a couple of lovely ladies in Singapore who I am sure would welcome me with open (careful) ARMS. However I will be going to Chiang Rai at some point during my stay as I have a friend up there from Welsh Wales. I could do a visa run to Burma. Does this mean that I would save the £25 and manage to visit another country (briefly)?

Cost of trip in time/money would be more than cost of extension from immigration on beach, but if you fancy a trip ,why not.
Customs may take a "closer look" if you just do a oneday in/out trip to Laos.

I actually spent 30 mins in Changi airport last week..
Thought 30 mins would be safe but it was quite tight to clear customs, check back in and board.. No waiting straight off the plane straight back on it.. The flight crew had changed which was a shame cuase I wondered what the reaction to that would have been..

I've done it once where I didnt even leave the transit area in Singapore, just off one plane and onto the next one back to Phuket. They did look at me strangely though when boarding. Just enough time for a quick piss and away again.

I asked about that (staying within the immigration zone) as crossing that linbe incurs about 2k bahts worth of tax... Of course crossing that line was what got me my stamp in the passport..

ranong visa run
I do my visa runs every 30 days to Ranong. I get on a big double decker bus called the "Executive gold class visa run" which I believe is the easiest and cheapest option. It is 1500 baht all inclusive of food, water, coffee, boat to burma, $5us, etc. The only cheaper options are 1100 or 1200 baht to spend the 12 hours cramped into a minivan. Yeah it takes a day but at least it is very comfortable and hassle free. Plus you usually meet a few like minded people on the trip. You spend 20 minutes in Kaw Thaung, Burma where you can purchase cheap cigarettes (150 baht/carton), alcohol, and viagra. There are free transfers from patong or you can meet the bus at 7am outside Big C. It runs every day except thues and thurs.
Singapore - fare to Sing are very cheap now especially with Tiger Airways, but still have to pay the taxes which in this time of rising fuel costs is often more than the airfare. Also with the flight schedules on Tiger you have to stay the night.
Cheers!

Much prefer the Yorkshire inns mini bus.. its a merc bus and often only 3 or 4 people (whole row to lie down on) safe but quick driver set off at 8am from Sansabai and has you home by 5 - 6:30 depending on day..
Uses the covered 'big boat' not the longtails and is 1200 inclusive..
Bus has an LCD TV with VCD movies also..
Once went on the 'luxury bus'.. left at 6am and got back at 7 - 8 ish.. Big bus was way too slow..

Not my thread, but thaks to all for your so good advices.
I will need them soon
Is there a limit in the number of times you can go out then come back with this way to get a visa?
I called Thai Embassy in Belgium, they told me that I could do that several times but not always, without any precisions.
If I remember well, I read in an old post that Thai authorities would not allow "fake" tourists to stay in LOS more than 6 months a year. Any info?
