Cha Am

I stayed at Cha Am. It was at the Regency Resort, however, you can go in to town from there. At the resort, there's not too much going on though.

How right you were steve I HAVE BEEN about 8 times to hua hin its great for a short visit about 4 or 5 days before you move onto Patong or Pattaya . the beach at the main part of town is not too brilliant but a 5 minute taxi takes you to Hat Thip beach and having been to Lamai bech in samui many times i rate this beach just as good i normally stay at the hotel Jed Pee Nong which is bang in the middle of town and is only about 3 minutes walk from the bar area soi Bintaban there are not too many bars but there are enough and also a couple of good nightclubs and discos oh i forgot the jed pee nong is 1500 bhat per night and you can have a room next to the swim pool for that with coffe shop/bar next to you as well another option is the Leng Guesthouse run by a thai family its a small hotel with 18 rooms in 2 separate buildings opposite each other in hat thip village (right next to the good beach) hat thip village is good its a small street of small hotels all of which have their own food menus and at the top of the street there is a good swimming pool which is used by all the hotels and is cleaned daily there is also a internet shop a 7/11 laundry, to be honest the only reason i dont stay there anymore is because it is a 20 minute walk into town or taxi and i prefer to be in the main action both of thesen hotels i can recomend highly and they are both on the internet for direct bookings when booking just mention my name Tom Dorrans and they will take your booking with no problem as i have sent many people to both places when searching on the net just put the name of the hotel in your search box and hua hin Thailand and it will pop up no problem any other things or advice you can pm m,e and i will reply to you when i get the message i check this site every day

Hua Hin is nice enough and yeah good for a change from Patong. Dont expect nightlife on the scale of Patong though but there are enough bars to keep your whistle wet. Plenty of nice restaurants and cheaper than Patong. Heaps of good cheap food at the night market every night in the centre of town. It is a bit of a mission to get there though from patong, I spent the whole day on the bus (maybe someone can reccommend an alternative). Easy to get to from Bangers though on either train from Hualampong (slow but scenic) or bus. If you are with your tilak and want to do something romantic you could take her for a pony ride on the beach at sunset!

Anyway im sure you will enjoy the experience of seeing another part of Thailand.

All the best!

There is an airport in hua hin just outside the town up till 2 years ago you could fly to bangkok 2 times daily and had daily flights to Phuket and Samui but all of a sudden they stopped only found out at christmas why Just as ij says the thai king lives there but now because of ill health he stays there 100% of the time so because the flight path is over the palace the flights have been stopped.
the easiest way now to get to hua hin is spend the previous night in the nana hotel bangkok and at their tour desk you can book the mini bus which leaves direct from hotel at 0630 and 1400 and takes you direct to your hotel in hua hin for 500 bhat
