Thai Rak Thai

Thinking about Thaksin and this party of his for a while now, particulary the party name
Thai Rak Thai, anyone other then me that have a bad feeling about that?
Too me it reminds me too much of Europe's past and political views that today are frowned upon.
Just wonder how a party with a name like that would go down with the public in any Euro country?
Think people just might perceive it as giving a wrong message, the politics aside?

Thai rak Thai is a very nationalistic party, I dont know if it is true or not but somebody said they have not granted any permanent residence visa to foreigners since Thaksin come into power. All applications has been rejected.

Anyone know if this is true or not?

Sure its xenophobic.. populist policies and promises to sway the ignorant village voters.. Not too popular amount the educated or more modern Thais as far as I can tell..

Seems to me that politicians the world over are pretty much the same. Their number one priority is winning elections and they will do and say whatever it takes.

Campaigning in remote villages among the politically ignorant is no different to politicians glad handing around sink estates in the UK and promising to be 'tough on crime'.
