Many people expected to LOS for high season :)

This is from todays VG, a norwegian newspaper.

http://www.vg.no/pub/vgart.hbs?artid=287861

Basically it say travel agencies expect a record number of norwegians will go to LOS for high season.
Star Tour will send 5500 with charter, in addition comes 4000 on flights for theme vacations.
New of upcoming high season is charter flights from Stavanger, Bergen, Trondheim and Bodø.
Compared to capacity they had before Tsunami it is an increase of 35%.

The travel agency Orkideexpressen expect a 10-15% increase, compared to last season.

Thai Airways belive in an 12-15% increase.

Head of informations in Star Tour is quoted on that euro airline companies have increased their capacity for upcoming high season.

Very short and brief and not a word by word translation but you get the idea, personally I think high season will be good this year, as I've heard rumours from other scan countries rapporting the same.
I checked the charter operators a while back and not easy to get a seat there now for high season...and I know a few that already have booked tickets and come to LOS as first timers.

What you are talking about is the Thomas Cook- Condor initiative. Seats are not sold yet, but It sure is a good thing they start to promote

Reports from Germany are that Africa is the hot destination for this winter. Sounds good to me. Better prices for me in the LOS.

A travel magazine I use to buy every sunday stated that Phuket is preparing for a busy season and that everything will be as good as new and ready to embrace the tourists... In fcat the magazine also states that a person not being aware of what happened (Tsunami) he/she wouldn't see any difference... Hopefully it'll be as when I was there in Dec 2002, not too many people but not empty either... 13 weeks to go and meet you guys... Yeeiiih!

Krabi Int Airport

All this # of flights also incl Krabi.
Remember that in nov-dec Karbi Airport turn in to an International airport
Many of the german and scandi chartertourist that used to visit Kao Lak will
now be placed in Krabi/Ao Nang with direct and cheap flights. That will of course also give some new lowprice seats...

That fact + lack of money = No extension of Phuket airport!
Will it even be safe for bigger aircrafts and the terminal is allready to smal.
What happend to the money for that?

If Krabi Int Airport will be good for Patong or not. Who knows?
The transfer from Karbi to Patong by bus is over 4h.
Sounds looooong after 10-15h in an aircraft. But a change over in BBK
also takes a lot off time and power.

To buy a bar/hotel/rest in Ao Nang could be a good idea for them who is looking to start up something LOS. Remember Ao Nang has a stonewall/pier
that protected it from Tsunamin.

yes looks like aeroplanes are getting full for high season. I have been looking around some and it was hard to find a ticket for resonable money for x-mas/ new years.

But finally I found at one travel company who has charter plane direct to phuket from sweden. just a flight ticket (dont want package to resort hotel). And i got the LAST ticket they sold. and thats 4 months away from now. If looking for regular tickets such as thai.. they are very expensive that time of the year....

So hope alot of BM's will get there for x-mas/ new years. going to rock'n'roll the MTB again

Tim26swe will arrive 17th december and stay 21nights to 7th jan!

The runway at Krabi is only 2100m, while you can still operate a 767-200 in and out, it doesnt leave alot of room. I've also heard that the runway surface is as rough as guts.

phuket does not have a-lot of room te expand
krabi does!
but i dont see wy thailand would expand a small airport like phuket or krabi [and all the ifrastucture]
now that they are building the new one at bangkok and k.l so close.
Or would the large airlines, see phuket or krabi as a viable alternative, to bangkok?? or kuala lumpur?????? and all that 2 moths a year >?????
and a 767-200 can only reach as far as the mid east [safely]
so you have to bring in the 777, 747,s witch bring there one prob,s to an airport

I disagree a little bit, the beach area now looks all new, the beach road in Karon has been completely renovated, but the water in the bays is more shallow, there is a lot more sand now than before and you can walk outside very far.

I hope for the people working in Phuket, all this is true! Not for myself though, because I hate too much crowd. Luckily I am there allready before the x-mas season. I think that these last 2 weeks I will stay more with the family at Kata. More people there too, but not as hectic as Patong...
