Why Thailand?
Some BMs live in LOS, some go there 3 times a year, some will go nowhere else but LOS - what is the attraction?
For me it is the friendliness and warmth that I'm sure is genuine. Coupled with a live and let live attitude, a laid back approach to life and lots of fun.
The weather is good but it is good in many parts of the world where I have been on holiday. Beer, food and women are cheap, but there is more to it than that.
What is the draw to LOS for you?

mostly the atmosphere, the food and the people. Ofcourse the cost of living and the ladies are not that bad either.
I have travelled throughout the world (still do) and must say that I find thailand more relaxed then most others

Climate, food, mates (expat nutters are a breed apart), cost of living well, girls and nightlife is a big appeal I guess but dropped down the list over time..
I seriously hope that whatever travels I continue to do I never live outside of the tropics again.. My pool is probably the most satisfying luxury I have ever had.

For over 8 years we have had businesses, bars, in Thailand, and have managed to make a decent amount out of them, but this has all changed now.
On the hand, as has been said by others, how can you go past, the food, climate, people, life style. BUT, things are changing, I dont believe that it is the paradise, that it was years ago.

I can vouch for what most people have said BUT the longer you stay here the more nothing is quite what it seems!!! are there smiles genuine, is there any truth at all in LOS, it can be disconcerting at times

What's the attraction.....?
Thailand offers a diversity of natural splendor, places of historical interest (including ancient Gothic ruins), charming towns, excellent tourist facilities, heritage buildings and beautiful cottages, a gossamer of roads, lush greenery and off course friendly pathways.......
No none of those things attract me to Thailand. Firstly, for me, its the lack of stress, as soon as I walk into the arrivals hall at Don Muang Airport I feel all the stress leave me, I forget all my worries and problems, and am able to relax. After that its the combination of fun, funky food, fine friends combined with great weather, beaches, and value for money.

Just the fact I'm not living a 'normal' life in the UK.
I get to drive past Elephants on the way to work. How cool is that.
But agree with G too. You could waste a lot of time 'proving' people are lieing and drive yourself crazy

Easy one to answer ! The women first and the different lifestyle you experience knowing that you will go home but will definetly be back as soon as possible. So many bars So many women and lately So many mates over there, whatever time I go ! Perfect !

Well I have been coming to Los, years before I put my Leathal Weapon into a TG/BG!
Now I love the general athmosphere. Some real, other created for the tourist well-being!
It just have almost everything I want : nice beach (Kata!), relax athmosphere, many smiles a day, good and cheap food (but that is coming more difficult!).
I cannot talk about business. But some thing are not so good as before!
Traffic. Terrible, i can't undertand the bg's spending their time in central Patong.
15 years ago, Patong was only sand.......
Too many tourists kills the charm of a place. Phuket is getting in the "dangerous" zone. I have to admit if I booked my first trip today, I am not sure, if I would be so thrilled. But because I always felt good in the past, because I know a lot of people there now I always cherish to see again, I live with it...
Getting older, i started my solo-trips and I love to take back to the house that good-looking young girl on my bike!

Second that.
I like the different culture and religion, it make my day more color rich compared to the grey and dull Sweden. I dont believe in the religion but I still enjoy and like to have it around me, there are so many funny things they believe in and I respect that.
The friendly people. Beautiful girls. Thai food. The tropical weather suits me perfect. Good value for the money.
NO WINTERTIME!

I have not yet been to Patong but i expect it wont be much different from Pattaya basically the first time i came to los with 3 friends i have to be honest and say we came 100% for the girls now coming up to my 19th visit nowadays its different ok we still have the beutiful girls ,but also its a great place for single guys in respect that you could go there alone and you have no problem meeting in with other guys in similar circumstances so you are never short of conversation and company, When you add in the fantastic weather, the friendly thai people, the food ,the booze and also the fantastic culture, (believe it or not i have made the effort on my previous sorties to see as much of los as i can) its for me paradise on earth thats why i am hooked! its such a change from Scotland where the weather is absolutely dreadful and because of that we are a nation of moaning minnies (myself included) what a pleasure it is to reach Don MUang where imediately you are confronted by smiling happy faces , unless you are near the departure area of course 55555555555555

I like the lifestyle, less stress in LOS than in Europe, I like people, most of the time really friendly, Thai food, the wonderful landscapes, the fact that you can talk easily with anyone, Thai or farangs, the way that Thai people can live happy without a stock of things at home and with a little money, Thai culture and religion is very intresting to me too and of course the wonderful smile on a beautiful TG face

Let's have a say then too.
Not the girls. There are just as many beautiful girls in other countries (who speak English also). Not the cheap beer. It's not cheap. I never paid 80 or 90 Baht for a Heineken in my home country (and there I was earning 10 times as much). The friendly people? Just the fact that they are smiling doesn't make them friendly perse.
I was structed by some things my country totally lacks:
Freedom. You can paint your house pink if you want to.
(all a resultante from a none/minimal government)
Service. You can say anything about Thai, but their service level is world class (especially if you have been living in Holland).

Another pretty negative post Burg
Exactly why do you live in LOS when you bemoan it so much.
There are people who would give their eye-teeth to be in your position.
For heavens sake,be a bit more upbeat can't you?

5555, it all depends. 5 Thai to do one job in your homecountry! I am not suprised that you were talking about prices of your beer. Dutch people take their own, everywhere they travel! To pay 0,50 € more is indeed a terrible thing!

It is true though that beer in Holland and Belgium IS cheaper, half an €.
We see Dutch people coming with camping -cars here stuffed with food they bought in their home-country, so they should not pay 10 cents more for something here in France.
Can't blame them really, what they forget is that if some things are over-time they have to throw it away. Then you better buy it fresh here!
