I think the offer is quite genuine. A friend of mine who is a seasoned traveller has a gold card and he uses the free travel insurance to cover himself when he travels. With any insurance i suppose it is only as good as the claim process is. Get a copy of the insurance policy and see what you are covered for and what is excluded, so you know where you stand.

Yeah it's true with the gold card, mind you have never had to make a claim yet so I don't know how good or bad the policy coverage is and we all know how insurance companies hate paying on any policy. But that's the only insurane I now use when travelling overseas and it does'nt cover you at home.

Go and have a look at the westpac web site, it is all explained. Numerous other cards also do this, including amex.

It works. I have a Visa Gold with insurance from the Bank. My mother died 10 years ago while I was in Thailand. I could not come home on my original air ticket as it had fixed dates. So I had to buy an extra ticket. They paid it back, no problem.

Yes ! it works ,

Last xmas & New year i buy that ticket on my Visa gold and then i also get a free insurance "thats included" then when the tsumnai hit Patong and my "normally" fleight was canceld i have to buy a new ticket to come home !!

Visa gold insurance pay back everything + hotel for extra nights in Patong
and also a small amount for "food money" , no problems !!!
