Krabi and Ao Nang
Ive never been there either uptoyou but I read that its a bit swampy and people head to one of the beach/resort areas 20 to 40 mins away.I was planning on Ao Nang beach which sounds nice. Can anyone report on the Best Western Hotel there?

Railay Beach is very nice. There is just a few bars so the nightlife is very quiet. At least it was in september 2004. But the beach is great and the rock climbing is awesome.

ao nang is a nice place to stay, a few restaraunts, pubs and bars.
very small strip of beer bars(girls),well thats all i seen, maybe there is more.i went in high season, but still was farily quiet, nice to relax for a couple of days, take a trip round on a longtail to the neighbouring bays i.e railey, very nice, then maybe kayak to the next, hard work on a hot day,but well worth it.

I would agree with all the guys comments and that Aonang would be the place to stay. It really is quiet but great for a few days to just hang out and relax. Wife and I drove there from Phuket airport and were surprised at how quick a run we had it was a really good drive. Had a great time just hanging around the resort and beach for 5 days before heading back and hitting Patong for 18 days of drinking and partying. Glad to have that rest cause it was definately needed. Enjoy hope you have a great time,

Also south of Railey beach is some small but very beautiful islands, e.g. Poda and Chicken islands. Very nice for a daytrip with a longtail boat.

worth having a look nice area for sight seeing.
and some good day trips or over nighters from patong ferry is the best bet.
Nightlife is limited and suggest take your TG with you.

was in ao nang 3 weeks ago for 4 days.is very quiet but as said good for relaxing, railay beach is nice but best bet is to get up early and get a long tail to one of the many small islands with secluded beaches.there are loads of beaches around.ao nang beach is a mess right now, still being redeveloped after tsunami,no one goes there other than late afternoon to walk out to the 2 small islands normally surrounded by water in the day.i stayed krabi forest hotel,500 baht a night,ok but not brilliant.entertainment wise, most bars shut, one night club that was empty and 2 bar streets with no more than 20-30 tourists.as i said it was dead but great for relax and loads of places to see in the daytime.loads of waterfalls the hotsprings the rainforest crystal lake.i have been to krabi 2 times now and will go again next trip, its nice to relax for a few days after days of drinking.
only downside, apart from hotels very expensive i think

I also plan on spending some time at ao nang on next trip.
Would appreciate info on driving to krabi from phuket airport -
is there a specific air con bus/mini bus service to krabi ? or
better to take taxi ? cost and drive time ?
Also I read that you can get ferry from krabi back to phuket town.
Is this worth the trip for views ? cost and time of trip ?
Cheers all
