Input on my trip I'm planning

Okay, so I'm planning a solo 2 week trip out to Thailand in summer 2007 (not sure which month just yet) and I plan on raising about $5,000 to spend on this trip.

I've just recently began avidly reading up through travel book after travel book the destinations I've been considering (Phuket, Koh Samui, and Bangkok.)

As of now I'm leaning toward Phuket or Koh Samui because I love the island beach atmosphere and what it has to offer.

On this trip I'd like to experience everything Thailand has to offer so what I'd like to know for these 3 destinations are these things from your experiences there and where I'd find these things for Phuket, Koh Samui, and Bangkok (I know with Bangkok you can virtually everything but island experience.)

1. All inclusive hotels- I lift weights on a regular weekly schedule and I can't imagine taking off a whole 2 weeks from it.

2.Massage Parlors- I'd like to try the Full Body Massage (physical/modern massage whatever you want to call it) as well as the Traditional Thai massage

3.Nightclubs- Where's the hot spots? I gotta go throw down some moves on the dance floor

4.Wats- There’s actually a Wat by my home and I'd really like to see and experience one in Thailand

5.Surfing/Scuba diving/wave running/swimming- this is where I lean more towards Phuket or Koh Samui for this right here.

6.The best food- I love all kinds of Asian cuisine as well as chicken and all mediums of seafood.

7.Hangouts- you know spots to go befriend a local or mingle with some fine Thai ladies.

So there are the things I'd like to do and know where to find them for Phuket, Koh Samui, and Bangkok. Any help, advise, travel experiences are wanted for these 7 categories to the three areas I've specified.

Thanks in advance!

Well it's not like I'm going to go and follow some tourist only path. I'm just looking for some heads up on the stuff I listed so that I have somewhat of a blueprint to guide myself by to go see and experience things.

And information like the best discos, restaurants, go go bars and other things might change by the time you are finally going to LOS.

Make sure you get a guest friendly hotel if you are interested in the BG scene.

Like Tintin said keep up on the forum and you will find the most current info or you can ask again nearer the time that you are going. What was the hot spot in October 2005 might be gone by summer 2007.

Best place to drink is at the bars owned by BM's of the forum starting with MTB(just looking for my free drink April 2006 Nicke).

You'll be paying more for your accom, the cheap simple hotels dont have these facilities. There are gyms available in Patong and also Samui

Well there isnt much in the way of surf. Diving is better out of Patong, but check the time year. A trip out to the Similan should be on your list. Although from Samui, Koh Tao is great diving

You'll find spots like this in both Samui and Patong.

Why not spend time in both Samui and Patong, there are direct flights between the two islands.

Thanks for the help stevem.

I have a few follow up questions though.

First off. What would be more expensive, checking into an All Inclusive hotel or just making my stops at the local gym in the area. Also, at which of these establishments would the best gym equiptment be, or would it be just about the same in both places?

Then with massage parlors. I know in Phuket there is Christins Massage and they offer the Full Body Massage but do they offer Traditional Thai Massage as well? One more thing on this. Can you name off some more Full Body Massage parlors in Phuket as well as in Samui?

It's great to hear that most everything is abundant enough to just find on the go. Same with the great seafood in Samui and Phuket, I can't wait to go try it out.

Actually I have thought about going to Phuket for a week and then going over to Samui for the other week. The reason I haven't decided on doing that is because I don't want to have to feel like I'm rushing through my trip to check into the next hotel I'd have booked for the next half of my trip. Unless it's easy to grab a good room without booking in advance? Do you know if is? I've heard it's usually tough in a tropical paradise like this to grab a room off the cuff like that.

Thanks again.

I'd pick my hotel then use a local gym, i think the equiptment is better and more of it in the gym.

Massage parlours everywhere, pick the one to use by either recommendation when you are there or by what the girl looks like that offers the massage, but make sure the one that akes you into the shop is the one carrying out the massage.

You will get hotels easily on a call in basis, pick the one you like prior to leaving for LOS and then you can leave dates and decisions til you are there, cos you may decide to stay in Patong for the whole 2 weeks and do samui next time.
