NO airline currently offers inflight internet, as the Boeing Connexion service has been withdraw from use, due to insufficient usage.

The service will discontinue at the end of this year & from October it has been free! Some airlines may decie to remove it earlier.

What are the main reasons to stop those services. Do they interrupt too much or are they too expensive or why exactly ?

I can't imagine we're not all sitting happily online up in the air in let's say 5 years ?

Well, I'm degraded to economy due to company policies, guess that will take a while before we're all online in economy. But not even bizz class did make use of it ?

that blows, I have a 17 hour flight ahead on thai business class, in-flight internet would have at least carved 3-5 hours....I like the power outlet though I might bring my laptop on board and play some long drawn out strategy game like Civilization or Sim City.

I think some of us less well off travellers baulked a bit at the price. It was aimed at business users, but was pretty dear IIRC

Okay, but there still are those phones installed which passengers could use to call around. I just took a look at them, never used them. They are pretty dear as well but still available.

So I guess it must have to do something with operational costs to provide that online service. We are at early stages with this technololgy and I believe it will only be a matter of time until competition will make it available to all of us. Thanks god for competition...

Around 25-30USD on a 12 hour flight. Of course most people laptop batteries don't last 12 hours, so you need a charger. In seat power limitted to 75W - not enough for my 17" powerbook. 12 hour flight - I would rather sleep.

Next year they are launching mobile phone access on planes, so you will still be able to connect that way.

Last time I flew Singapore they were offering free 30 min vouchers to try to entice ppl to use the service - I'd rather drink or sleep personally......

There you go, only 30 USD for a 12 hour flight. Can't imagine that's really too expensive for the majority of ppl. Indeed, the power outlet is a problem, if they want to make money with this, they need to provide this in economy.

Oh what a wonderful idea , just imagine a 12 hour flight with Nokia ringtones and some d1ckhead next to you telling their friend all about the flight.

Heaven help people who want some peace and quiet on a plane if mobiles are ringing all the time. What a crappy idea to have that technology on a plane..
