So what is the deal with Hash House Harriers?
Just a "drinking club with a running problem"? It seems to me that whenever "sex" and "Asia" come up in conversation together then the HHH make an appearance. How come yellow fever and mongering focussed around a running club? OK so I know that HHH started out in Asia and that the social dimension has always been important. I can understand that Sarong Party Girls and their like may join in order to meet Western guys. But is that really all there is to it? Is it really some kind of secret mongering club - and the running thing is just a cover?? I'm very intrigued....

Oops sorry. I asked this in the newbie section originally. I didn't realise there was a dedicated HHH section!! But anyway doesn't the very existence of an HHH section on this site kind of prove my point?

The HHH clubs are more of a social event and don't concentrate on the competativeness of running so it would not be unusual for girls/guys joining clubs for the sole purpose of meeting other people. With the Phuket HHH, there is a healthy mix of both expat and local Thais

Dori: not sure that healthy mix would be the right term for the members of the Phuket Hash.
whuakito: First gathering of these perverts was in KL just prior to WW2. Founder disappeared during the war, believed killed in Singapore when the Japanese invaded. Check faulty's thread for more info. Dawsey: shouldn't Hobbsy's post about sick videos go in this section too? Let's keep all the sickos locked away in their own little area.

If you go to a forum about "London" or "Melbourne" you are very unlikely to have a dedicated HHH section. If you go to any forum for expats in Asia, such as this one, the HHH will likely crop up somewhere. You can buy H3 T-shirts in places like Pattaya, Patong, Patpong, Angeles etc. They are not for sale on every street corner of any western city. Stop being disingenuous.... ^ Err no! I really haven't been to Phuket before. I came on this forum to find out information about where to stay, what are the best bars, etc etc. I have been lots of other places in Thailand, and I've been all over east and southeast Asia, but I will be in Phuket for the first time in January.
I included Patong in my list because it's obvious from what I've seen on these forums that HHH have a presence in Thailand's other main sex resort (quel surprise....). Fatmonkey, the best advice I can give you is, to stay away from these gay cross dressing types.
You'll only do your head in trying to work out what they're all about. Grown men that prance around the jungle wearing ladies clothes & stand in a circle formation afterwards, chanting nursery rhymes, then sit on a block of ice to cool their sphincter, aren't the kind of guys a straight man would want to associate with. That is only two points above the average hasher IQ. Can you picture 3,500 old farts doing the Red Dress Run? Not a pretty sight. The Philippines has several active hashes, and they show this aging pattern. When the Americans pulled their military out of Clark Field (Air Force) and Subic Bay (Navy) in 1989, they left behind a legacy of bars, *****houses, and derelict retired military trash. This was fertile breeding ground for the Hash House Harriers, and today these groups thrive. The Angeles City HHH, outside the gates of Clark, gather at the Anchorage Inn in the sump of an infamous district of sixty girlie bars, for Thursday hikes out in the surrounding mountains, and on Sundays for runs. The hikes alternate weekly between short ones of one to two hours, and long ones of four to five hours. I did a long one with a group of seventeen - two Swiss, two Scots, two Brits, one Dane, one Japanese, and assorted local bargirls and girlfriends. They do an out and back course, and turn back whenever they feel like like. There is no circle afterwards but the Jeepney they hire stops on the way back for a beer or two at a roadside store before regrouping at the Anchorage Inn in the evening. The Sunday run is a regular hash followed by a traditional circle. Most of these hashers are too old and broken down to actually run. They get to start early and walk the course. They are called "cripples" and they show no shame. The Angeles HHH is a "family hash" and behaves mostly decently, unlike the Olongapo HHH at Subic Bay. I cannot give you a first-hand report of their outrages, even if you are twenty-one, because I didn't do a run with them. It is speculated that some of their activities would appall even Swampy. Five hours by road up the west coast of Luzon at La Union is another HHH composed of older expats, many with local wives and girlfriends..... As a recovering hasher I can confirm that the male hashers are usually old farts who cannot run and are perverted to boot.
It is essentially a social event as no person in their right mind would associate with these beings. I have the distinction of managing a ST on a hash in Europe with a comely wench and still finishing the run mid pack. Humour of the hash is crude, direct and fcucking hilarious at times. Dont knock it until you've tried it, then you really have some ammo for castigation! I intend to do a Phuket run in December purely to meet some BM's. Hashing is a good leveller of people. Mind you, who wants bloody levelling??
