Lebanese would not be too far from making that list.......wonder how they are going to celebrate Australia Day ?
Think maybe the UK would give us a run 4 our money.

Aussie, our Australia Day, would be best compared against the Americans Independence Day......
Thanksgiving Day is a totally different issue..

[QUOTE=aussie dollar
independence day is more like about our federation day.
I'll stand corrected, for not comparing apples with apples, as you're correct about Federation Day & Independence Day as a comparison.
However, would you agree or disagree that Australia Day is celebrated almost the same way as the Americans celebrate their 4th of July?
The way we celebrate Australia Day bares no similarity to the way Americans celebrate Thanksgiving.
Aussie, can we agree to disagree?

First of all 'overseas is an English word therefore only applies to those areas outside the landmass that contains England i.e. Mainland Britain - England, Scotland &, despite our best efforts to flood Offa's Dyke, Wales.
Secondly, since the population of Britain is about 60 million and the population of the World ('overseas') is over 6 billion, then less than 1% of the world's population was NOT born 'overseas'.

I think Aussies celebrate every day like this. I met a bunch of Aussies on holiday in NYC over the summer. They were some good people and they partied like no one else.

They call Australia the "Chosen Country"....bcoz it's initial inhabitants were chosen by British Judges in the late 1700's !
