never been to vietnam
cambodia:
if you want to go to cambodia and are not necessarily looking for nightlife, i would suggest siem reap, as anyone will. it is where angkor wat is located, i believe the oldest wat in the world, it is quite impressive.
phom phen is basically the nightlife area of cambodia, although i found the attractions, although a little disturbing concerning the war, were fascinating

Hi PDJ and welcome to the board...
My favourite places in Vietnam include Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) for a bit of French colonial style magic and the hustle and bustle........... the Mekong Delata if you are a bit adventurous..........Dalat which is a funy mountain retreat place for the Viets on holiday or honeymoon......Hoi An for a real taste of old Vietnam and the architecture and market (my favourite place in Viet).........Nha Trang for a nice beachside holiday experience (good for diving + party boats + partying at the Sailing Club)...........Da Nang for a chilling slice of war history..........Hanoi for its old world charm and beautiful lakeside setting......Halong Bay for its fantastic rocky outcrops and caves.........and possibly Sapa if you want to see hilside tribes similar to the thai hillside tribes above Chang Mai Chiang Rai...........
For Cambodia must sees are the temples at Siem Reap and the beautiful French Colonial architecture of Phnom Penh...........you can also do the beachside thing here at Sihanoukville down on the coast below PP
Good luck with your travels...........

Top of your list should be Siem Reap and the temples of Agkor. It is a busy tourist place where you can spend a few days.
What disturbed me in Cambodja was the number of handicapped people. The whole country must have been mined.

it is very disturbing, and also the school that was used as a torture prison.
as far as gettign there, not hard as in you can get motorbike taxi but its a little bit of a ride.
id also suggest to any going to PP, that you find a good motorbike taxi and he will stick with you everyday

Your options Phuket to Vietnam are
Air Asia via Bangkok (Hanoi)
Silk Air via Singapore (Danang)
Thai via Bangkok (Danang,Hanoi,Saigon)
Tiger via Singapore (Danang,Hanoi,Saigon)

what is the best way to get a visa for cambodia and vietnam? when im in thailand or at the borders?how much do they cost?and is it worth getting both visas in thailand as i`ll only have 30 days in each place, what i mean is does the 30 days start as soon as your accepted or when you cross the borders to the actual countreys themselves.
sorry about these dumb questions...
