The Infamous Marketing Degree

Hello folks, long time no see.

I have a question, sorry if it's been covered before and extra apologies if I'm just totally naive.

Is the "marketing degree" that so many Thai birds seem to have a euphemism for something else? I've come across so many graduates in marketing that it's a wonder the Thai aren't selling ice to eskimos. Or soap to the French even!!

PS. (The use of the expression "come across" is intentional and purely for The Real Sledge's benefit).

A "degree" in Thailand is not neccesarily obtained from a univertsity to same level as what we are used to.

Can you explain Steve? Do you mean it the qualification might be the equivalent of our TAFE or something? It still strikes me a strange that of every 10 birds I meet, and not necesarily bar girls either, 4 of them seem to have a qualification in marketing. I thought it might have been a euphemism for "earning extra $$ on the side".

You got it. My wife's son is currently in his 2nd year of an "IT degree", but he is only 18, so started when he was 16. I did some time in Bangkok working for a phone company, and was introduced to some staff, who where announced as "system enigineers". Got me wondering what the fvck, turned out they were computer operators.
