ATM Card failures

Hi,
I have two ec-cards from banks in Germany. They had to send me those cards already three times in the last 6 month because the data on my cards becomes unreadable after some weeks. Anyone else experienced something similar?

I think maybe my cards do not get along with the BTS cards or something like that...

Do you keep them any where near magnetic source ??

I know there was a myth busters that seemed to show that large elctro magnets didnt screw up the mag stripe but I would think that way.. Like a mag sealing wallet or ??

Did you used to keep your hotel key and your wallet in the same pocket?
The kind of keys with an elctro magnet for the aircon... Some people from this board experienced this in the past.

i kept the card for my condo close to it. but it was just a normal card to open the door...
I just thought that the bts card check might not be that healthy for my atm cards.

mag cards

sounds definitely like you are doing something unusual to the cards; I had a German card for months without ever any problem.

carrying the card without protective hull (eg beach sand), magnetic sources, putting them on or besides strong electric circuits, intense heat (eg in the car), all could be creating problems.

Magnets in speakers. Not the kind of thing you think about.

And I think that was dispelled by myth busters as well.

If you carry two cards in a wallet with the magnetic strips facing each other, they will eventually lose the data.
I know because I did it. Dumb or what?
