Where do you get your news

Woke up at 5.30am this morning.......listenned to the news on Radio NZ then jump out of bed + went for my usual morning walk with radio on headset........

Had a breakfast meeting with a couple of colleagues and read the morning newspaper whilst waiting for them......they are always late

Watched the second half of the Barca vs Arsenal Euro football on TV at the office and ten sat at my computer and read some post match comments.....Don't think I'm gonna do much today but sure am well informed so far........

Actually this is pretty typical of most mornings but in Sydney its 2BL radio and then a swim.......no radio earphones........and then to a cafe for breakfast + newspaper

I'll catch up with news several times during the day in the car on radio and in the office on TV...........BBC World or Sky News Australia.......and several peeps on the net.........then at night I'll watch a couple of news broadcasts........local NZ news then BBC world + a couple of infotainment type curent affairs shows.............too much news?????????

Where do you get yours??????????

Mostly online while at work, and on the car radio. Weekends news just doesnt happen for me. The world could just about end on Friday night, and I probably wouldnt know about it until Monday morning.

Google news.. I love the way it has no built i bias or editorialism and is a ranking system of aggregating news and ranking active interest.

I am a news junkie.. CNN or CNBC sits on in the background.. Hit the news feeds all day..

Used to think finding a good international newspaper on my travels a treasure.. The UK has a few, the Times, Guardian Observer (and of course the pink un).. The LA Times and NY Times are both OK.. Just these days I find the delay of news to print to delivery (especially international) a load worse than net news.

Also I have magazine subscriptions for info / news.. Wired is a constant but I like to get nature, new scientist etc.. They cost a fortune to subscribe in Thailand so I am not getting those.

Agree with you there LiL.........the time elay to print media is almost making it obsolete.......but it is a pleasant experience sifting throug the morning paper over breakfast.......I'll probably do it until the day I die........if it lasts that long..........

Google news is fab too....and I'm on in at least 3-4 times a day......

As for mags......apart from architectural and designs mags I really like Vanity Fair for its in depth articles and mix of politics, the film + music + computer industries, big business and world topics .........
some of these particularly on the political front have revealed some information which has virtually bought down governments......deep throat, Nixon etc........the writing is always of excellent quality but politics varies between the writers.......Christopher Hitchens to the far right and Bob Woodward out towards the left.......with plenty of others more towards the middle...........its a great read.....and the pictures from Lieberman, Ritts (RIP) etc are always brilliant..........anyone else a fan?

I get a bit from everywhere, Read through about 3 Tabloid Newspapers every morning, Maybe a bit of the Indo aswell, Then listen to it through the morning while I am working, On the radio in the lorry (Basicially the radio news is read directly from the Newspapers I have found, Word for Word)... Get home flick on the tele and go and have a quick look at Sky News, And then SkySportsNews... Later on that night I will catch the RTE News and sometimes a bit of BBC News aswell, And just always flick in between programmes onto Sky News now and again to see if anything is happening.... Jesus I think I am as bad as you Nelsonone....555555555....

I'm a news junkie too. National post every morning. CNN and CBC through the day. CBC Radio Canada in the car.

For the real news it's the Daily Show and the Colbert report.

I've defaulted to BBC Radio4 over the years, which is pretty much all news and current affairs, it gets a bit dull sometimes but I'm up to speed with what's what in the world.

Sky news is ok if I'm in the house in the morning, but Eamonn Holmes gets on my tits after a while.

I think that the BBC coverage of Iraq was superb and I really admire them as an institution. The politicians give them a kicking from time to time, but I find it refreshing that politicians from all quarters dislike the BBC, they must be doing something right.

Our newspapers are a bit frustrating, but I keep coming back to the Times and the Independant. The time's sport coverage is the best out there I think.

I listen to the radio in the morning here while getting ready for work. We have BFBS (British Forces Broadcasting Service) A little bit of news on the hour with them.

In work I have a quick read through on Google and the BBC Website.

I like my Sunday Telegraph and Times on the web too!

I have Nilesat and Hotbird which both carry the BBC News 24 and Spice Platinum (But that is another story!)

On my travels it's amazing to hear of how many people have been brought up on the English language as spoken on the BBC's World Service! 30 year old transistor radios working off the big 'D' cells in the middle of nowhere!

"Good Morning! I am Mister Dabor, I am an cleaner at the tractor factory. How do you do. Pleasant day what? Good to see you old chep! Goodbye!" This bloke has never been more than 50 miles from the village he was born in!

Didn't get round to replying to this first time round, but today perfectly highlights my view on web/tv based news services.

The fire at Istanbul's Ataturk airport. I first heard about it sitting in front of the pc with BBC World on telly. I then had to endure at least the next hour with endless repetitions of the same rubbish, constantly interrupting the following programmes with updates, that had no actual updates or new information.

Don't get me wrong if it wasn't for the TV/Web I wouldn't have known about it so I do appreicate the immediacy of it, it's just that it seems it's an endless race to pull out the nearest "expert" on the subject and ask their views about something that they know nothing about yet either.

Within a 20 minute period we went from a potential terrorist attack to a short circuit and they were even talking about an ultra flammable roof on the cargo building.

There was an article in the bkk post recently about this very phenomenon of having to be the first to have the latest news, but when you go back and re-read what was actually said at the time, most of it was absolute rubbish.

I think ultimately it's a balance between getting up to date news against getting accurate information whether that is a few hours or the next day later.

My biggest worry was that they interrupted an interview with Pele saying England were going to win the WC - maybe we won't now

Oh, back to the mags people read...one of my favourite is Nat Geo, love the articles and the photography is almost always amazing. Read once that the photographers will sometimes take 5 or 6000 shots to get the dozen or so that you see in the mag, and will even take multiple trips to go back and get the right shot!

Agree with you Syeaty on the "immediacy of the story " phenomenon and the accuracy of the speculation........but after a while you see a pattern emerge and then it's like betting on a horse race as to the outcome......for news junkies like me it's kinda fun/tragic being your own pundit..........so call me a sicko!.......55555

I too have enjoyed the national geographic all of my life..but probably more as a young lad late at night..........after 8.0pm...in the privacy of my room........I sure my love of the conical breast shape came directly from NG.....so as you can see it played an important role in my "formative years"

I had even had to retrace some of he stories I read in NG on my travels over the years......but the one I looked foreward to the most was seeing the masai women of southern Sudan.........

NelsonOne, I did say photography and not pornography didn't I? I'm sure I was reading certain other mags at 8pm in my room when I was a lad

Still have all my Nat Geo's somewhere at home and will probably bring as many as I can manage the next time I pop home. Kind of material that can be re-read over the years.

Plenty of other mags that I read from time to time. Time being one of them, remember reading their tsunami special a little while after the event and thought that it was the best I have read yet about the tragic events. Something about waiting a few weeks or months and revisiting events that seem to put them in better perspective.
