Had a guy out here in California crash a Ferrari Enzo into a telephone pole when he was racing it down by the beach. Was supposedly doing 130 mph(about 200 kph) and it was definitely a write off, just about sheared the car in half.

It was owned by an Asian businessman who was not best pleased when his younger brother crashed it.
It sounds like the idiot was posing in it as he was telling anyone who listened it was his car.

I used to push 150 MPH quite regularly on the autobahns.. The motor was actually hands off stable at that speed !! And wasnt even breaking the law..

100 MPH in a real sports car / supercar is not so fast.. That was 3rd gear on the 850 (it had 6).. Hell a golf gti is stable at a tonne..

Well he wasn't a kid Paul. He was a guy in his 30's. He borrowed the car from his brother, and made out it was his. He was an absolute idiot driving at 100mph in the rain in a 40mph zone.

Of course there would be no reaction if the car was an Accord! That car, the Veyron is the worlds most expensive, and fastest car. No wonder people were writing about it. Nothing to do with being appalled at spending money at all, just the first time one has been damaged by an idiot.

It wouldn't have been nationwide news in England if it had been a Honda.

But if it had been some idiot in my neighborhood driving 100 mph per hour in the rain on the twisting roads through the canyons or in Palos Verdes and I heard about it I would have said something abou that.

Money doesn't buy you a higher IQ, unluckily for the driver of the Bugatti.

again, i dont condone driving like an idiot
but it seems if anyone spends any kind of money or actually like luxury items on this board, hes automatically an idiot

Not in my book. If anyone has the money to spend on luxuries, good luck to them.

I fully see Pauls point.. Not just with cars but people spending money on themselves is often perceived as wasteful here..

I would also say when it comes to fast cars.. If someone had crashed a morris minor at 60 MPH no one would blink an eye or say the driver was an idiot.. I would bet that a super car with its tyres, braking systems, forward viz, etc etc etc would out perform (stopping, handling, emergency manoeuvre) many old cars doing half its speed.

Yes hes a tit for doing 100 in a 40.. There may have been people around and it was probably a built up area.. Thats anti social..

Guess I am an idiot then. Own 2 Rolexes, used to own a Leica SLR. Flame away.

My whole contention is that no matter what kind of car he owned, he was an idiot for going that fast in the rain in an area with a restricted speed limit. Not in those conditions, no matter what kind of car that he was driving, unless it had been a formula 1 racer or Le Mans series car.

And he did it on a public roadway, not a closed circuit race track.

And I have driven Porsches, Ferraris, a Lamborghini, and lots of other nice cars, so I know what they can and can't do pretty much, and I would have never driven that car, or any other car like that in tiose conditions. My friends have money, not me.

This is all about how stupid he was for driving that car in those conditions, not how much money he spent for the car.

Jeez, if I had that kind of money I would spend it also. Ferrari F1, Enzo, Salleen, Gallardo, couple of Aston Martins, even a sweet little swedish number that I saw once.

in my opinion, it,s just the stupid acts in the way these expensive cars have been badly damaged.
it,s as though, the drivers have no repsect or value for the dollar or how it is earned.
myself i have some nice things and i look after them. but, to wreck them in brainless circumstances is a waste.
im sure the drivers did have regrets though, well, i hope....
