what area is better to stay in for a young couple

Champ Elysee or Latin District

When I was there a long time ago Champ Elysee was very touristy. Know some people that were in the Latin District recently and they really enjoyed it.

I was there 2 yrs ago.

The right bank was more charming.

The area I spent a lot of time was across the river from the Louvre.

Sainte Germain area.

You can walk to the Louvre, Notre Dame. Tons of corner cafe's. Great food and people watching.

Great subway system.

Quartier Latin is walkable from Champs Elysee (or vice versa). Look for a good afordable hotel in the centre of Paris, say around the 2 isles. You can go everywhere by metro and even walk to a lot of places, including Notre Dame and Louvre.

Saint Germain vote from me also..

Nice walkable area, bistros, cafes, the river, Norte Dame all close.. The public transport systems can get you anywhere round the center simply from there.

As said, quartier Latin (Latin District) is around Sorbonne university, Left bank. So is St-Germain. So I would go to the 2 isles (Isle de la Cité and Isle Saint Louis) with their monuments Notre Dame and Sainte Chapelle, close to Louvre and Tuilleries. Or the left bank close by. A lot to see there, around Arc de Triomphe not so much to see, and you can walk the whole distance from the Louvre to the Triomphe. Then take the metro back.

There is a reasonable bar area East of Bastille and also around the Rue St Denis (not to be confused with the St Denis area to the North of Paris).

They are all telling you some spots where you could go. Good luck finding it. Overall, bring your money and be prepared to search around as a nooby.

We've been in Paris, it's overwhelming and there's no land to find for a nice, relaxed, cheap beer (or coffee).

You will be a just a tourist arriving and leaving as such :-)

There are lots of places for nice, relaxed, cheap beer and coffee. You can explore all the main areas as a tourist but it would take a long time to get under the skin of Paris, especially as the Parisians are very protective and keep it for themselves and reveal very little to the foreigner.

Paris to me was like a "huge big tourist trap". I don't live there and don't have the time in a weekend you know...."!
