New iPods and Nanos on September 5th
Several sites (Engadget, Crave) are reporting that Apple will be holding a media event on September 5th, 2007 at 10am Pacific-time.
Apple are rumoured to be holding the event to launch the new iPods. Rumours have pinpointed both revised Nanos as well as a full-screen touch iPod.

New product range has been released
Apple
Personally, I like the "beefed up" Ipod Classic - with better battery life for music and video playback, and larger storage capacity.
No interest in the "Touch".

Looks nice, but 8-16 gigs is low storage capacity.
And as a music-player, the touch screen would be annoying compared with the click-wheel - which you can operate while the thing is in your pocket for example.
You would also want to compare the price of the Touch with the iPhone to assess relative value for features.
The new Nano - I wonder if that will be successful. Bigger dimensions that the old version - which will pi1ss 1/2 the people off - but the screen is too small for anyone serious about watching video content - which will p1ss the other 1/2 off!

The Touch kicks ass. I can tell you on the development side there is a lot in the pipe to build sites just for the iPhone/iTouch. This product will finally deliver on the idea of mobile internet.
more important...
THE FIRST FREE IPHONE UNLOCK IS OUT. I will be coming back with an iPhone to demo.

You can spend the $50-100 for this current version of the iPhone software, then do it again when they upgrade to 1.03 if you want.
I'll take free and open source myself. I've gone over the instructions. If you have a little bit of geek in you, it isn't too hard. The upside is after you can then SSH into your phone whenever you want. But before you unlock, you need to jailbreak it (activate the phone so it just isn't a pretty brick) but that isn't that hard either.
I'm sure within a month or two they will have unlocked iPhones for sale at MBK.

My first comp in 1995th had 1gb HDD and it was biggest in my 500k citizens town (and price was about USD1k for this "huge" storage)
=)
Actually what is the point to buy Touch then you can buy same thing (iPhone) with additional phone functionality?

Too many functions in a phone will kill the battery life.
I am already suffering it with the Nokia N93i.
Maybe ATMwalking can give a report on the battery life.

I think the Touch is rated at around 23 hours.
I agree that usually I like to keep my phone for mainly a phone and have something else for playing.
That said, if you are willing to trade off 8 gig of storage then you can get the phone, camera, and blue tooth for the same price.
Tough decision.

16Gb iPhone announced for Europe (499 euros - about 700usd). Probably will be cheaper in other regions.

You make a good point in a subtle way about how greedy we are getting about storage capacities!
But there is something nice about being able to carry around a 160GB unit like the "iPod Classic" and have every song you've ever owned, and every movie you've ever bought/downloaded, in your pocket!
I was watching a doco on Apple the other day - quite an amazing corporate story.

Do you mean the iPod Touch? The UK announcement isn't until the 18th.
I'm still debating which way to go on this. Apparently the touch is a lot thinner. I'm just not sure how good EDGE coverage is in Phuket if I got the iPhone.

Strange because I just read this morning the announcement will be next week.
Mac Rumors: iPhone (Germany) to be Announced Next Week?
Also to the best of my knowledge there isn't a 16 gig version of the iphone. Only the 8 gig version. Unless this is something new for the Euro market.

From everything I have read it is not unlocked for certain countries/carriers, it is just simply unlocked.

If it is a GSM network, then there is no issue. Unless the carrier is activley seeking out phone models and blocking them. Or the carrier is on some wierd frequency.
