your style of club/bar

myself and co-workers had the luxury box for the Canucks game Saturday night
after the game, we went out
we eneded up at this artsy, rock dance club
a girl we were with was an artist and we didnt wait in line but there were at least 300 people waiting in line

my point is, i had no real desire to go into this place and 300 people were waiting to get in. just shows that everyone has different tastes

so what type of club/bar do you enjoy?
i would say i like more of lounge type clubs, with tables and sort of laid back

My all time favorite bar, was a place called "Royce's"...in SLC, Utah. (USA)

Named after the proprietor, and billed as a (private club), so as to get the liquor license. (Utah..another story 5555) A combination restaurant (great 4 star food) in back, with a lounge in front, with a soft, soothing piano music.

Pretty waitress's and a good drink poured. (Actually, by LAW..could only serve the mini bottles of liquor. Airplane type, approx 1.7 ounces in bottle)

Day in, and day out... a great place to unwind and "decompress", after a days work. (Lot's of ladies frequented it as well...my happy hunting ground. 5555)

I guess, for a "regular" bar (as in, your "Cheer's), I prefer the quieter type of place. You know, in Patong, I like to go to Baan Yin Dee occasionally, and enjoy the view, drinks, and piano background.

I look forward to checking out the new "BYD Loft's", as mentioned in another thread. (If Denver will let me go...)

The best place i ever went was in Montreal, Canada and was called Source de la sex...it was a kinda strip joint/bar/live music/eatery all in one and had the most beautiful women i've ever seen in my life....will never forget the experience !!!

Infact most of the bar/nightclubs in Montreal were pretty amazing....such a cool place to hang out

I much prefer ye olde country pub, flagstone floors, granite walls, big open fireplace for the winter, darts board&pool table somewhere, nice selection of real ales and a jukebox filled mostly with rock music, with enough room inside for a local band to play on saturday nights and a beer garden to enjoy the summer evenings.
Much like the last one our family had.

if its a nightclub. I prefer a club that is stylish and "upmarket" without it being full of *****. The bed superclub in bangkok was great

listening to music: can't remember the bar, it was in NYC and the bar had live jazz music, huge comfy sofa and armchairs and good atmosphere

I really like "Sky Bar" and "The Standard" in LA....both are great sophisticated places with multi spaces so you can wonder around and just take in the groovy scene...the music is hip and chilled but still danceable....the crowd is a mix of cool well healed people of all ages and the decor and spaces have been well thought out....another great one is "The Establishment" in Sydney + I always enjoy the "St Martins Lane Hotel Cocktail Bar" in London and "Buddah Bar" in Paris

I am not one for the full on heavy beat dance clubs anymore.....these should be left to the kids....I want great chill music so I can still have a conversation and then an optional dance space if the mood takes me that way

all of the above (except Budah bar) are attached to hotels and this is another thing I really like....there's something great about just getting in an elevator rather than trying to find a cab late at night in a big city

Ahhh Montreal! I just kicked my Montreal habit and now and am developing a pretty sever LOS habit. Went to Montreal over 30 times in the past. Great clubs and night life there.

One club that shut down around 2000 was Club Sona. It was open on weekends around 11pm and closed I think around 8-10am the next morning..never lasted that long. Great big club with live djs and great loud mixed music. Kinda a well done commercial rave.

Big strip club like Teazers (now closed) was a nice club in Montreal. Big and open so you can just sit at bar and see all that was going on around you (except what was going on in the booths ) Have not been to Montreal since May 2006. I read many of the clubs have changed recently. Market is shifting I believe.

While in London last year I enjoyed Club Fabric. Nice dj music.

I like quiet clubs also...btw I don't dance.

For me I like the old style dark Dutch Cafés where you can have a drink with your friends and even understand what they say.

While living in Montreal, I always like to go to the bar section of La Cage aux Sports and watch the Montreal Canadians play on Saturday nights.

I like bars with a genuine atmosphere where the music is not too loud, so at least you can have a normal conversation.

Yeap, that's the ideal setting. Probably something from Cheers? 555

The Pub at the Shangrila KL is something like Cheers, very nice place, until the Live Band starts playing !!!

The kind with cold beer will do just fine for me. Even better if it's on tap! I'm not picky!

Guess I've been living in Thailand too long. I just don't get waiting in line anymore. Abroad right now and there are a few places I wanted to check-out. My friends are mostly finished with clubbing now. So no-VIP passes or connections. They aren't into bottle service. I'm not waiting in a line. So there are a whole bunch of places I didn't go into.

Waiting in line is really f*cking lame.

I like dive bars. You know seedy, lots of bourbon, people doing body shots off scantily-clad, promiscous women. Like Coyote Ugly or Red Rock West in NYC. Something with a New Orleans/Mardi Gras feel.

to be honest, ifi dotn know anyone at the club, i dont mind waiting in line if they are being fair about it
one club in Vancouver i was 5th in line and they did not let anyone in while letting in about 50 people that they knew
to me, thats unacceptable. if my friends are going to that club, i will fust go home, wont go there anymore

must admit that I always walk up to any club like I own the joint and expect to be let in.....mostly I am known at the clubs I go to so I would be surprised to have any hassels........but if the gorillas point me to a queue I won't join it

I'm forever getting club memberships via email so I am almost always an instant member anyway....plus most of the owners through the industry

when travelling I almost always stay at the hotel which houses the club i am intending to visit

With the talk of long lines for clubs it made me remember the entrance to Club Sona in Montreal. They had the ropes out in a square shape with no set line except for the guest list people on the side. You had to wait until they picked you out of the crowd to go in. I really did not like that system. I guess it would be similar to how massage girl or bg feels when waiting to be picked.

Once inside I loved the music though.
