People you meet

i actually stole the title of this thread from Mitch Albom but it fits

i think we all are guilty of talking about ethnic groups or people from otyher countries we dont care for. i decided to start this thread and talk about people you meet from different ethnic backgrounds that impress you or that you are continually pleasantly suprised about a certain group pf people?

for me 2 stand out:

Mexicans-being in NYC a long time i was exposed to alot of Mexicans and just a great bunch of people. hardest working peopl i have ever seen

Sri Lankans-i just recently started runnning into Sri Lankans in Vancouver. some of the most friendly and engaging people i have ever met

anyways, be interesting to hear what everyone else has to say

There are 24 nationalities on the crew I'm working with in Egypt - quite a few surprises, though the nature of the job might weed out the bludgers early.

In NZ I enjoy the Maori + Pacific Islander cultures.....

these guys are hard (normally physical) workers and always keep a good sense of humour.....great singers and god jokesters

I am always happy when they are on a job of mine

In Australia I just love the influence the mediterranen countries have had on our culture....they have added a real level of sophistication to how we live our life and greatly improved the gene pool....especially where women are involved

A lot of Polish guys coming into construction in my area. One is working with my company, and he works his a$$ off. Nice people too. You cant blame these people for wanting to better themselves. Its the ones who are just looking to claim all the benefits without putting anything in that bug me.

Also a lot of Chinese students around, going to the language schools.

I immigrated to the US almost 25 years ago and have since met countless people from different nationalities.

As views often go, work ethics are often the first impression. To that end the location even has a play. While living in the North East I found Mexicans very hard working, while living in California I found it a mixed bag. In So Cal I found Asians consistently impressive when it came to work. In the New England I met many people from India with the same attribute. I recently moved to Michigan and have been introduced to more union workers than I have ever met... I'll tell you this is a race of its own.

Aside from work I have encountered so many wonderful people around the world that it is hand to credit one more than another.

I have to say that the Muslims in Malaysia (of whom I know many now), I have experienced the most surprising goodwill and kindness.

Thais are naturally high on my list for so many reasons that has been discussed on this board to no end.

As for Europeans; after I moved to the US and several years of disconnect, then getting much more involved with EU business than I ever was, I have managed to get a "refreshed" view here. As a Dane I always viewed the Brits, the Germans and the French as an arrogant elite of Europe. I take take most of what I said about the Brits and the Germans. Solly the analogy stops here as I am not much for using the F-word.

By and large there are admirable people all over the world. Folks that have pride and manners and who are not too full of them selves are high on my list.

it is good to see people have alot of positive things to say

i will say one negative. there is a large Indo-Canadian population in Canada. alot of young Indians(20's and 30's that were born here with parents that came to Canada from India)
just some of the nasty, least friendly people i ever met
all the guys are always looking for a fight.
and i dont think i have ever seen any of the girls smile

it really is amazing

Spent a bit of time in Croatia this year, the people are really friendly there, the country and summer climate sensational.

Was lucky enough to meet a few local women, honestly, they are soooo
friendly and soooo sexy.

Number one for women in that part of the world as far as i am concerned.

For me basically I got a different view on Russians after I started to work on the Russian market. The people itself are really cool and go for mutual success. The are also having a goos sence of humor and once you reach a "click" with them you are friends for life.

The people I still dislike the most are the Indians. Not only the tayloers in Patong, but the many I also meet professionally are really a pain in the ass!

There is a similair problem in parts of the UK. But I can understand why it happens here due to racism towards them. I have also seen large scale fights between gangs of Indian or PAkistani youths, but thats all whole different problem!

I have found most nationalities friendly and welcoming, although you do get bad apples in each batch. THere are large numbers of Portugese, Polish, Litunanians and Estonians around where im living at the moment. The Portugese/Brazillian population are generally the friendlist bunch of people you could ever meet. (Although there does seem to be a difference with the American influenced youngsters!) The eastern Europeans are very hard workers, but maybe because most are young and single, they have a tendency to cause trouble on weekend nights. (Alot of them carry weapons too)

I will always take each person as person before a nationality, until they do something to change my opnion. Except for the English!!!!!

M26, I couldn't agree more, I have been travelling to BC / AB and SK for about 5 years now on Business, and even in that short span, I have noticed a big change,, and you are spot on,, with the bad attitude comment,, seems that most all of them have pissy attitudes!!! IMHO
