Vietnamese art

i was wondering if their is any art collectors out on this forum

i am, by no means, one

but i was walking in Tribeca, NYC the other day and i came upon this Vietnamese Art Gallery
the works were so nice and fresh looking

i bought my 1st painting. it was sort of a white and cream peace depicting a village

so has anyone else seen Vietnamese art? is Vietnam known for its artist? i figured somebody might know soemthing on the subject

I don't know much about art or Vietnam but I just had a look at a Tribeca gallery called Gallery Vietnam

Gallery VietNam

I nice site - maybe the same gallery that you were in?

I liked Trans Phanh Nam (bathing sculpture), Dao Hai Phong, Nguyen Dieu Thuy and Nguyen Hong Vinh

Would love to learn about Thai artists as well

well M26 I have been collecting since I was a student.....have pieces from all around the world picked up on my travels but my favourite genres are modern abstracts + aboriginal (australian) paintings + maori sculptures

I have a couple of antique floor lamps and a bureau from Vietnam which I shipped back after my first trip and a couple of other bits + pieces i picked up when they sold off the sets from "The Quiet American" movie...but no paintings

Actually, that was the one that stood out for me too. I like the perspective - it's like a photograph - looking down at the houses and at the rice washer.

An Unusual Thread...

Cheers for posting Paul. I bought some paintings myself when I was in Hue, quite similar pics to the ones on that site... Hue seemed to be an "arty" place in Vietnam.

Cheap too, I posted them from there and they did arrive to Eire eventually.

Who knows, they could be worth a few quid in a few years.

I found Hoi An to be great for art + artisans work.....great place to hang out for a while too....it's a great little ancient trading town with influences from all around the world as it was a stop on the spice routes..also has a decent beach just out of town on the coast
