No. This guy is a lot older...so much older that he's dead now.

Burt Lancaster trivia!
Pictured below is Lancaster's most famous scene, the beach scene in "From Here to Eternity." In 1953, that was about as hot as films got, bit of a shocker in its' day. The scene was scripted to having them standing on the beach kissing. As the cameras prepared to shoot, before the director called for action, Lancaster suggested they do the scene lying on the beach with the waves washing over them! That definitely pumped up the whole eroticism of the scene. Previously, Deborah Kerr had always been cast as a "goody two-shoes" type, and this was Lancaster's first serious role, which made the erotic intensity they brought to the scene all the more surprising and shocking to fans!
Interestingly, enough, the movie was based on a James Jones novel, about soldiers stationed in Hawaii, just before WWII broke out, and much of the story took place in a ladybar, which they still had in Hawaii in those days. But since the movie had to be sanitized for censors, the ladybar became a "social club," and the prostitutes became hostesses!!
If you haven't seen it, it's worth a look. In addition to Lancaster and Kerr, it features Mongomery Clift, at the heighth of his career, Frank Sinatra, in his first serious role, Donna Reed, Ernest Borgnine, and George "Superman" Reeves. Sinatra only got the part through the intercession of his wife, Ava Gardner, with the producer. He was paid $8,000 for the job.
The title phrase comes originally from Rudyard Kipling's 1892 poem "Gentlemen-Rankers", about soldiers of the British Empire who had "lost [their] way" and were "damned from here to eternity". Sounds like some ex-pats I know!

By Jove, I think you've got it, man!! Looks like him. BTW, so you don't get the wrong idea about James, the girl in the bikini is his best friend's daughter, AND was his GF at the time the pic was taken. He was then 59, she was 20. They would have fit right in in Patong!!

Not John Cleese. Not sure he made much of a name for himself in the US, more of a British household name.

I could tell he was British. I think I've seen him, but don't know his name, or claim to fame.

No but you're in the right area. Romantically linked to a very famous singer/songwriter.
