Inside Wilson's Head--The Interview
We recently caught up with Wilson, the renowned star of Cast Away, when he rolled through Chicago to sign autographs for a local charity.
ST: Hi Wilson! I see you're back to the buzz cut.
WILSON: Oh, yeah. Those twigs itched like crazy.
ST: It's outrageous how you were snubbed at the Oscars--you didn't even receive a nomination for Best Supporting Actor! Any hard feelings?
WILSON: I bounced back pretty quick. I've learned to roll with the punches. It hurt worse not getting a Golden Globe, considering how much I look like the award.
ST: Well, your Cast Away performance was riveting. What was it like working with Tom Hanks?
WILSON: He was brilliant, a total pro. We got along great. He said he had a ball working with me.
ST: Were you scared at all when you fell off the raft and drifted into the ocean?
WILSON: Nah. I took swimming lessons for a couple months prior to shooting. I can still swim the butterfly like nobody's business.
ST: What are you doing these days?
WILSON: My life is pretty well-rounded. I raise money for charities, play a lot of volleyball, and read scripts occasionally.
ST: Any new roles on the horizon?
WILSON: I'm narrating a documentary on handball. Circle Films is doing a film about Lucille Ball. They asked me about playing the lead, probably because I'm a redhead. Don't know. Not sure about cross-dressing.
ST: No worries, Wilson--I'm sure you'll land on your feet! Thanks for your time.
WILSON: See ya 'round!
