Track etiquette

so i went to the track in Vancouver yesterday for the 1st time

i had a decent day and tipped the girl at the window i used all day 20.00 and thanked her for giving me luck
she seemed completely suprised

now in Boston and NYC, you do ok, you always give the people at the window a tip

do you guys do this also at your local tracks around the world?

i was pretty suprised at how suprised the girl in Vancouver was yesterday

if I bet with an oncourse bookmaker and use the same one all day....unlikely as i usuallly shop around for the best price....I will give the clerk (not the bookie....his pencil guy) a tip at the end if I've had a good day and won on my last race

Cool

Most people don't, but there are some that will "tip" when receiving the returns of a nice win.

If I'm at a track then I don't usually do it but if I am in a high street bookmakers then I will usually give a tip to the payout staff telling them that it's for all the staff.

p.s. good idea that nelsonone, I never thought about giving a tip to the "pencil man".

l worked in a "Tote" in Oz for many years.....a tip was always a chance when a regular client had a good win.

i'm pretty sure in oz, at the track it is illegal for window staff to accept tips, but as mav said the tote window is different.

Don't know hardly anything about betting at the track, but how does the person in the window influence your bet. If the answer is not, I am clueless as to why you should give a tip.
