You can take the girl out of Thailand but ...
you can't take the Thai out of the girl.
My Thai wife has been in Sydney for a week now. I've moved out of the pub for 6 weeks and into a mate's place to give her the chance to be a 'housewife' (which she can't do in the pub because the chefs won't let her into the kitchen, the housekeepers won't let her clean, I use the local laundry for the washing, etc). She has embraced this role with enthusiasm. Shopping, cooking, cleaning and washing.
I came home yesterday evening and the following conversation ensued:
"Teerak, these coats no good." She was holding up 2 pure wool suit jackets.
"That's OK darling, we will get them drycleaned."
"But I wash them."
"No, you don't wash suits darling." Then it hit me. She had already washed them! "You didn't wash them did you?"
"Yes teerak, but they look no good."
"Did you put them in the clothes dryier?"
"Yes."
"Ahh. You never wash and dry wool suits!!!" I looked at my mate - they were his suits. "How much were they Ian?"
"Only $750 each Doug." he said with a smile. "Don't worry, my fault for leaving them in the laundry. She was only trying to help."
I was not a happy chappy but left it at that as tears were welling up in her eyes as she had realised she'd made a mistake. We'll take them to the laundry today to see if they can be saved. The guy who owns the laundry is Thai so he should get a bit of a laugh ...

A funny but costly happening Sir D. Looks like a perfect example of the difference in this case between Thailand and the western world.

Why do you want here to learn to be a houswife if she does not need to be? whats the point if you already have things done for you?

Well, firstly, she doesn't need to learn. Like most Thai girls her mother started teaching her from about age 7!
Secondly, she gets a bit bored living in the pub. She wants to cook etc. As she will be here for 3 to 6 months I don't think it is fair on her to have to adopt my batchelor lifestyle.
Thirdly, I won't be living in the pub for the rest of my life. The liver is suffering ...

only from my experience, if the wife/gf doesnt have her "property" to care for and take pride in she will feel at a loose end.
she is in a new country, unsure of her whereabouts and circumstance, domestic duties have a calming effect.

Yes, they all seem to love being the homemaker and I enjoy coming home to a clean and tidy house, the TV tuned into the evening news and a glass of wine poured for me.

Brilliant, straight out of the 1950s guide to being a good housewife..........
She should put a ribbon in her hair before you come home too

;-) when you go back to Isaan, what area would you think you are in?
Reckon you can't compare the 50's with that ... you gotta give it to the
girls that they like to rule their own house.
But a funny comment from you though ;-)
